Optimize the search functionality on the podcast page and Listening History
-
The search functionality of the search box on the podcast page and Listening History is not as effective as the search icon on the Podcasts tab. The following screenshots are the search results for the same keyword 袁凌, a Chinese writer’s name (the characters 袁 and 凌 are not generally related). 袁凌 has been a guest on several podcasts I subscribe to, like 忽左忽右 and 跑题大会. Some episodes that 袁凌 participated in only have his name in the show notes, while others have his name directly in the title. As shown in the screenshots, the search icon on the Podcasts tab can find both episode titles and show notes, the search box in the Listening History can only retrieve episode titles (and podcast titles), while the search box on the podcast page fails to search for 袁凌 (Not feedback “No episodes found”, but no response. If you swipe up and then swipe down, the search box will be cleared). As a result, I have to find other keywords related to 袁凌 to search for his episodes, such as 独立作家 or 老记者讲故事. The above problems are common when searching for Chinese guests or topics.

I hope the search boxes on the podcast page and Listening History can be improved to be as powerful as the search icon on the Podcasts tab. Should this be filed as a support or a feature request?

Should this be filed as a support or a feature request?
@derekzhang98 That’s a good question! To help us test and also determine the best way forward, can you please share the following with us?
- The OS version on your device – you can usually find this from your phone’s Settings
- Your Pocket Casts app version – you can see this from the Pocket Casts app’s Profile > Settings (gear icon) > About

Thanks for the info @derekzhang98 We’ll note this down as a feature request.
Thanks again for bringing this up!

For me (iPad Pro, Pocket Casts version 7.77.1), listening history also only searches through episode titles, but I can search in show notes on podcast pages. I tested the podcast and search term you mentioned, and it returned results. Are you still experiencing the podcast page issue, @derekzhang98 ?

@derekzhang98 Thanks for reporting again! There hasn’t been any movement with this feature request yet. However, the more users request the feature, the higher the chance it gets built by the developers.
