Opting out of analytics

The current privacy policy states the following:

Opt out of our internal analytics program: You can do this through your app settings. By opting out, you will stop sharing information with our analytics tool about events or actions that happen after the opt-out.

However, I cannot seem to find that option either in the web player or in the macOS app. Since the latest release notes state that “This update includes more high-fidelity analytics, to help us identify weak spots and improve the app.” I assume that you also collect analytics for these applications?

  • Hi there, @murgeye!

Great question. For iOS, you can opt-out via Settings > Privacy > Collect Information. If you do not see this, you’d need to make sure you’re on the latest version of our Pocket Casts app.

However, our Web Player does not collect analytics like our mobile apps, and the message you see in our web player release notes refers to analytics that is anonymously collected. Those in a GDPR area can decline the option to allow cookies, but we plan on extending this banner to all users soon.

I hope that this helps 👍
