Option to disable auto-download when subscribing to podcasts

TL;DR: I would like an option to have the new auto-download setting not to apply when subscribing to a new podcast.
Context: After updating to v7.76.1.0 (iOS) I noticed that the new auto-download settings apply when subscribing to new podcasts. As soon as I subscribe, Pocket Casts starts downloading the two most recent episodes. I can change the setting for auto-downloads to only one episode, but I can’t see an option to disable this when subscribing to a new podcast. At the moment I have to tap each episode that’s started downloading & cancel the download.
My use-case is that I frequently find a single episode of a podcast that I want to listen to, and I subscribe to the podcast because it’s interesting and I will check in every now & then for other interesting episodes even though I don’t want to download or listen to every episode. I then add the specific episode I want to up next, which will download per my settings.

Yes, I do not like this change, I assume it’s an accident because there’s no way to turn it off. I definitely don’t want every podcast to default to auto-download.

+1. There should be an option available, and it ought to be disabled by default since not everyone prefers to auto-download when subscribing to new podcasts. This can be annoying for users who favor streaming.

At the moment, once auto downloads are enabled, it will be enabled for all new podcasts. If you wish to exclude certain podcast, you will need to go into the podcast setting and disable the auto downloads.
I have created a feature request to have an option to disable auto downloads when subscribing. I have added all your feedback to it.

+1 I hate this so much and I just spent a very frustrating time trying to google the problem. The previous behaviour was just obviously better

The setting will be introduced in version 7.78, which should start rolling out this week. You can find it under Profile > Settings (cog icon) > Auto Download. From there, you’ll be able to toggle the On Follow setting on or off.
