Option to hide the list thumbnails (complaint about new list thumbnails :) )

I’d really like a way to turn off the new 2×2 grid of thumbnails now shown above all lists. (This is a thinly veiled complaint!)
The problems with this new display element:
- It doesn’t convey any useful information that’s not immediately visible when I can see the first four items in the list. In other words, it’s just duplicating the first four thumbnails that were already on the screen before this update.
- It takes over 1/3 the screen space, meaning I have to scroll more often to see the same number of items that I used to be able to see. I can only see two list items now!
- It’s a list. It should look like just a list.
- It is visual/cognitive clutter.
