Playback Notification instantly Disappears on Pause(Galaxy S22 Ultra Android 14)
-
Hi,
I’m experiencing an issue where the playback notification disappears immediately after I pause an episode — even though I have disabled the “Hide playback notification on pause” setting.
Issue persists after: clearing cache, reinstalling, rebooting, and changing all relevant settings (battery settings are unrestricted). All other audio apps are behaving, so it’s limited to pocket casts.
I’m not sure if anyone else is experiencing this, but it’s quite frustrating. Would appreciate any help or recommendations.
Thanks.

I tested this on a Galaxy S23 running Android 15 and wasn’t able to reproduce the issue — the playback notification remains visible after pausing, as expected.
Could you please let us know what version of Pocket Casts you’re currently using?

I’m using a galaxy s22 ultra running android 14 (one ui 6.1). Pocket casts Version 7.88 (9336)

Thanks for getting back to us with that info!
Just to help narrow things down a bit more, can you check if the same thing happens with other apps like Spotify? This will help us understand whether it might be something specific to Pocket Casts or possibly a system-level behavior on your device.
-
Sure. I tested it with Spotify, Audible, and YouTube music, and it doesn’t happen. The problem is unique to pocket casts.

Thanks for confirming this with us, @mayerr613 and @yonigrady
Can you confirm if the app is set to Unrestricted Battery Access? https://support.pocketcasts.com/knowledge-base/how-to-give-pocket-casts-unrestricted-battery-access/
Also, could you share a recording of what is happening? You can upload it to something like Google Drive and then share the sharable link here.
If you can, also check if the issue is similar to what is in the recording here: https://github.com/Automattic/pocket-casts-android/issues/4062

Yes, battery is unrestricted, and I tried many troubleshooting steps (outlined above).
Here is a recording of the issue: https://drive.google.com/file/d/168g33pbbaPia36u4eMgA4X3SQSHkgC-r/view?usp=drivesdk
The issue is different then the one you shared, because it happens instantly.

I may have just found a fix.
I use a phone launcher called minimalist phone which filters notifications from unessential apps. It was set to filter notifications from pocket casts, so as soon as I stopped playing audio, it assumed the playback bar was a regular notification and hid it. I allowed notifications to pocket casts and the issue seems to be fixed.
The reason I didn’t think of this earlier is that I have other apps, such as Spotify, which have filtered notifications from the same app, yet the playback notification stays visible.

Thanks for sharing the fix with us. It’ll help others who are encountering the same issue.
I suspect the app might have exceptions created for commonly used audio apps, such as Spotify, to prevent these issues.
