Android indeed. Version 14, Samsung A54.
And the App is version 7.68, which is the most current issued by the Play Store in my region, at this time. -

Advert lead – no issueWhile at my desk listening to Podcasts from the same channel, I took some notes on when a specific stream failed. Maybe these will help diagnose what is going awry.
If possible going forward, I’ll try and record the Advertising lead-in duration as I think the 3 failures had 90-120 second adverts but not certain, where-as the last only had a 30-60 second advert which played without issue, the prior 4, and the streams in-between had no lead-in advert.Quantifying the Advert duration may point to a playback affect.
… also, the PocketCasts Apps was recently, prior to the aforementioned incidents in this post, to version 7.69 (9255).

A stream with a 120 second Advert lead completed without issue on the following morning. That is poking holes in that theory… 🙁

@compassdrg We have an open bug report for playback skipping or repeating randomly and we have added your case to the report.
If you have any further information to add, feel free to add it directly on the GitHub issue here:

I’m experiencing this issue essentially every time I play a podcast. All streaming, and I only listen via Bluetooth, though this issue persists across three different Bluetooth devices.
-
@jasonsilva67 Do you only experience the issue after playback has been paused?
Do you have Intelligent Playback Resumption enabled under Profile > Settings (gear icon) > General? -
Any updates on this issue?
- iPhone 13Pro Max with IOS 18. Also had this issue with the previous versions.
- Blue tooth streaming through car play with 2024 Nissan head unit while driving. Stream is from Verizon Wireless network.
- Blue tooth streaming to skull candy headphones while mowing. Stream is from personal wifi network.
- Streaming only.
- Pocket Casts version 7.71.0.5.
- Turing off Intelligent Playback Resumption did not help. (Turned off about a month ago.)
Occurs randomly during a streaming session, sometimes multiple times almost all sessions. (Not during a pause and restart.) Sometimes the rewind feels like up to a minute. Plus user since June 2023, rewinding has been happening since I started using the app.
Thanks.

Hi, sadly I also just had my podcast skip backwards 30-60 seconds in the middle of the episode.
Latest iOS
App version 7.72 (7.72.0.8)
Intelligent Playback is disabled and has been forever

@eawisniew @caldermuyo In the past, we found this can happen with episodes that have dynamic ads inserted into them.
Can you check to see if this happens if you download the episodes first instead of streaming?
-
I’m back, the issue is not fixed by disabling automatic playback resumption (though it does make it less frequent). I don’t think it’s caused by dynamic ads in the middle of a podcast, as the podcast in question didn’t have any ads. It occurred while listening to an episode from beginning to end about an hour in. I’m using skip silence and listening on 1.5-2.5x.
-
It’s gotten worse with the latest update. Please get this fixed. I love the format of the app, but the frustration is causing me to look for alternatives. It did it 4 times in a one-hour episode.
-
Indeed. I was experiencing a skip as frequently as once every 2 to 3 episodes. But that was for around 18 minute episodes, and usually at around 4:30 into the episode.
It is surprising that it got worse after the update. I haven’t applied that update yet.
I attempted to try other podcast players to see if the issue was isolated to this player. But many required a registration process to use, so I avoided those. That left two others that I tested, one demonstrated the same issue almost immediately, and one has not after a week of use. That would suggest, but not guarantee, that it is an Application issue rather than a content delivery from the server issue.

@staff-frank From what I have seen, or heard rather, I have had a skip in an episode that did not have an inserted advertisement. When the skip happens, I usually pause, rewind the episode to the beginning, start playback, and then drag the progress back to the usual 4:30 position to resume without the skip.
But replaying has sometimes had an advertisement insert, which makes the resume position short time-wise. The reverse has also happened, were the replay didn’t have an advertisement insert.

@lajwrona, @ri0tdude, and @compassdrg I’ll be reaching out to you to get logs from your devices. Please keep an eye out for my message!

@staff-frank I have been downloading selected podcast before leaving my office and listening to them for the last few days as you requested. The downloaded podcasts have been playing through without the rewinding that happens when streaming. Downloading beforehand is not always practical my daily drive. I have also tried streaming using Apple’s podcast app without this issue occuring, but I like your UI a lot more, especially on the phone as opposed to in carplay.
I did notice that the ads in the downloaded podcasts can be rather lengthy, but seem to be minimal in streamed podcasts.
Also, it may be coincidence, but it seems like streamed podcasts are cut a little short, (in mid-sentence), while downloaded podcast have a definite end.
-
Hi @eawisniew! I’ll be following up with you to request some diagnostic information. Please watch for an email from me.

This is almost certainly caused by dynamic and insertion by the podcast provider. I was listening to the creator of a different podcast app talking about this problem and they decided to remove streaming from the app because it caused so much trouble. In the end they added streaming back in because so many people wanted it, but changed the way it works. Now it downloads the whole episode when the user starts ‘streaming’ rather than trying to download it bit by bit in real time.
