Played downloaded podcasts now automatically getting archived and deleted
-
Hi team,
I think I am running into an on-again off-again issue where downloads once played, are auto-archiving and thus deleted. This has happened in the past and is occurring again (a new set of updates caused this issue (IIRC) seemed cause and then to resolve it in 2023.)
For background: I often allow podcasts to playout either during the day or night, fully intending to resume where I last heard, or to listen again in full.
The problem is I never set either all, or any manual override of podcasts to auto-archive once played.
Blanket setting is set to “Never” on Auto Archive played and Auto Archive inactive; and auto archive on a per pod feed have no custom settings.
Would rather not have to load each feed, to redownload each archived podcast. If it is of consequence, I do get a banner stating “Episode Manually Unarchived – It won’t be auto archived by your new episode limit of 0” when I redownload/unarchive.
I am not sure where this limit of 0 exists other than in the settings previously mentioned above, but if I download and play out to the end, the episode gets auto-archived anyway.

Many thanks -
I just realized I’m getting the same thing. I don’t synchronizewith any other devices. I’m running Android 14 on a Pixel 5 with Pocket Casts version 7.61-rc-3.

I’m also affected. This is a fairly recent change, and adjusting the settings in the app (android, build 9210) doesn’t fix it. I had it set to 24 hours auto archiving, and now it’s off, but the episodes are still archived.

Yes I nnoticed I was having the same problem, but now I’ve also noticed for certain podcasts new episodes are getting archived before I’ve even played them. I’m not even receiving a notification that a new episode is available it’s like the episode is getting archived as soon as it’s available.
My global auto archive settings are set to ‘Never’ I’ve also tried changing the settings for the individual podcasts to ‘Never’ but it made no difference

The “immediately auto-archive” appears to affect only certain podcasts. I have 1 where that happened, while I have others where it didn’t. Also, I notice that my filters aren’t getting episodes correctly(podcast X, release date: last week. Episode released today should be matched, but isn’t. If I unarchive it, it matches, but when I re-archive it(because it now won’t be auto-archived), then it drops off the filter again.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we sought to resolve the problems with our Android app. We have launched an update with several bug fixes and performance improvements. Please keep an eye out for the 7.61 update (not the beta) in the Play Store and install it once it’s available.

Hi Frank,
The update hasn’t seem to resolve this, is there any workaround(s) until the next software update? -
-
@staff-frank the problem seems to have been only partially fixed. One podcast episode was not archived immediately (with video), and one was archived immediately (without video).

Hi, folks! I’ve asked the developers for any updates they can share about this issue. We’ll update you as soon as we know more.

I’m now having this issue. Listened to podcasts aren’t deleted, just archived. The clutter in Downloads is now such that it’s increasingly difficult to navigate.
Unfollowing and re-following makes them disappear, but that’s not feasible for multiple podcasts on a daily basis.
Is anyone else currently experiencing this?

Hi there, @posttokev! The fix is underway for v.7.93. Please be on the lookout for the next version release!
-
Having followed the steps in a separate thread, the fix doesn’t rectify the problem for me initially. The shadowed items remain in Downloads.
However, if I click into each item individually and click Archive, it then disappears from Downloads. This is time consuming and remains necessary moving forward to remove the unwanted clutter from this list. Clicking Mark Played means the item remains shadowed in Downloads.
Is there any possibility of this issue being resolved definitively? Also, with the necessity to now archive everything to avoid a cluttered Downloads list, could you tell me how I access the list of archived items so I can clear it?

Hi @posttokev,
The recent issue affecting the Downloads list on Android was fixed in version 7.93. Since this seems unrelated to the original topic here, I’m marking this thread as resolved.
If you continue to experience any problems after updating to version 7.93, please join the ongoing discussion in the relevant forum post here:
