Played episodes doesn’t show on Android Mobile and change sorting
-
- When an episode of a podcast is played, it is greed out. When that happens, it changes the sorting of the podcasts in the overview. Mine is setup to sort on episode release day, and when the last episode is played, it sorts the list on the second episode in that podcast and so forth. That means, if I have listened to all episodes of a podcast, it drops to the bottom of the list, which makes it seem that the list is not sorted on latest update but on ‘last update of an episode that is not listed af played’.
- That makes a huge problem on Android Auto! If I want to re-listen an episode, the podcast is in the first place sorted long down the list, because played episodes is not taken into account when sorting on lasted update of podcasts. And when you go in to the particular podcast, the played episodes does not show! The only way I can re-listen to the episode is disconnecting my device from the car, go into Pocket Casts app, find podcast (long down the list, even if the played episode I want to listen to, is the lasted updated podcast), select the episode and mark it as unplayed. Then reconnect my device to the car again. Needless to say, this is not safe or legal to do while driving…
I’ve loved using Pocket Casts, but this is a deal breaker for me, and I can’t use the app before this is sorted out. As a minimum the ‘show played episodes on Android Auto’ problem.

Hi there, @sejberg! It sounds like you’re using Auto-Archiving but the way archived episodes are displayed on mobile and Android Auto is different. Is that right?
My understanding is that on your mobile device, you can view the podcast and the episode list. When you play episodes, they are greyed-out. If you want to replay an archived episode, you can tap on the episode and it will load and start playing.
But, on the Android Auto, when you view the same podcast, the archived episodes are not shown at all. To play an archived episode in the vehicle, you need to start playing the episode from your mobile device. Does this sound like the experience you’re having? -
that pretty much sound like my experience. I just checked my auto archive setting and it is ‘off’ on both played episodes and inactive episodes.
I’ll try to see, if I have the same experience on my next played episode, or if I just put the setting to ‘off’, after I had the experience last time. Must admit that I changed to another app, because I was unable to make it work, so of course there is an chance I just couldn’t find the rigth setting.
In rregards to the archived/played episodes not counting towards the sorting method I still think is not rigth. Even if that’s what you intended it to do 😊

I just checked my last played episode, and that wasn’t archived, it was ‘only’ played. And it didn’t count toward the sorting of the podcasts. The podcast was placed in the sorting order based on the latest unplayed episode, not the last update of that particular podcasts feed overall.

I just checked if the played episodes still disappear on Android Auto, with the auto archive setting off, and it does.
