Player Controls in Landscape Mode (Android)

    Whenever I have the fullscreen player open and rotate my phone to landscape orientation, the playback controls disappear. The only way to get them to reappear is to rotate back to portrait orientation or lower the player to access the small controls. Is this by design, or a bug?

    My phone is an Pixel 8.

  • Hi there, @tinysmokedscored! By playback controls, I’m guessing you mean the play/pause, rewind, and forward buttons. Is that right?

    Could you share more about this issue so we can investigate further? Here are a few questions to get us started:
    – Are you seeing the change when playing an audio podcast or a video podcast?
    – Which version of the app are you using?
    – What is the Android OS version?
    – Could you provide a screenshot with an example?

    Hello @staff-eleanor! Yes, that is exactly right. There are no play/pause or other payback buttons. This is on audio podcasts. I don’t have any video podcasts, but I could download one purely for testing if need be.

    The app is version 7.85 (9329). My phone is running Android 15.

    One other detail: If I try to scroll up while in landscape orientation, the extra controls (playback speed, archive episode, etc.) appear at the bottom of the screen. But the normal playback controls do not.

  • Hi! Thanks for the screenshots. I see what you mean about the playback controls. I tested with several podcast but couldn’t replicate the issue. You can try updating the app, clearing cache for the app on your device, and restarting the device to see if that improves the playback.

    As a next step, could you send us the debug logs from the app? You can do this by going to Profile > Help & Feedback > Get in touch within the Pocket Casts app. The logs will be automatically attached to your message. Please put “Attn: Ticket #9659876” in the subject line. Thank you!

    I’ve tried clearing the cache of the app and restarting my phone, but neither did the trick. The app looks like it is on the latest version, so updating isn’t an option right now.

    I took the logs from the app and sent them to support using the subject line you listed. I wasn’t able to use the “Get in touch” option in the app. It just directs me to these forums. Instead, I pulled open the logs and tapped the Share button to send the email.

  • Hi @tinysmokedscored! Thanks for sending the log, I was able to locate it and it to the bug report. I noted that you’re still having trouble with this even when using the new 7.86 version of the app. Thanks for your patience while we look into this error.
