Player frequently unresponsive and nearly UNUSABLE in the past few days
-
Had the problems the last couple of days, worked perfectly yesterday and freezes again today. Still on 7.6.2, but airplane mode or rather no internet connection solved the problem for a bit. Switching wifi on and off didn’t work after that. Have to restart the phone. Seems to hang on updating in profile.
Let us know if we can send logs etc. Love the product.

Hi @ojthiele! Could you send app logs from your device as explained here: https://support.pocketcasts.com/contact-us/?
-
Issue not resolved in 7.6.2, updated yesterday, woke up this morning had to force stop to get latest episodes download and to be able to play current pod. When current pod was restarted it was not at the point I stopped listening, approx 15 min back.

Same repeated issues with 7.46.2 on android 12 / oneplus 7 pro. Unresponsive, won’t play any episodes, once in a while will play and not stop sound under any circumstances (necessitating restart), etc. Almost unusable now. Submitting feedback and logs.
-
Same issues as everyone else persisting with me and the most recent app version (7.46.2). LOTS of bad reviews in the Google App store bringing up the same concerns as well.
Considering switching to a new app altogether at this point.

I saw here in one thread about turning off analytics. I also sent logs with bug report via the app as described above (turn off analytics, swipe away/close pocket casts) plus I also turned off crash reports and restarted the phone.
I would say that I’m still ‘testing’ this change but I haven’t actually had any issues since I did that. YMMV.

Turning off analytics and crash reporting was an attempt to isolate the issue, and since then many users have reported that does not solve the issue for them. So I don’t expect it will resolve for you long-term, but if it does definitely let us know.
-
I tried turning off analytics and crash reporting, and while it did “work” for about 2-3 pauses, by the third or fourth pause it had frozen again and required either a force stop of the app or a restart of my phone to get it to stop playing.
Is it possible to just roll back the current version before this was broken? The app was fantastic until around a week or 10 days ago!

If you are happy sideloading apps then all the versions for the last year are available on their github: https://github.com/Automattic/pocket-casts-android/releases

I went back to this version on my Moto 6 and now my Samsung Galaxy A51 (Android 13) to get Pocket Casts running again:
https://github.com/Automattic/pocket-casts-android/releases/download/7.47-rc-1/app-7.47-rc-1.apk
It shows Version 7.46.1 (9137) when installed. I guess I will just keep doing this every time an update comes down. This version doesn’t seem to track my exact podcast layout but it works without locking up or becoming non-responsive so I don’t really have another choice.

Originally I was going to say I was seeing a link between whether or not my Bluetooth headphones were connected and whether or not the app synced, but my app’s current behavior shot that down. I had been noticing that when I first opened the app, if I had my headphones connected, the app would not sync and would be stuck. I would then turn off my Bluetooth headphones and restart the app, then it would sync. However I can’t get mine to sync right now regardless. Nothing will sync, play or download. As I was typing this out I finally got it to sync, I started the app while my Bluetooth headphones were turning on. Not sure if that had any effect or not…
Very frustrating… but I’m not giving up. Bad updates happen. I hope you guys figure out what the issue is soon! I can only imagine it’s just as frustrating for you.

A new beta 7.47-rc-4 is released. Could beta testers give that a try? You can also sideload it from the app’s GitHub releases page: https://github.com/Automattic/pocket-casts-android/releases

Similar/same issue here. Can see my list of podcasts, but can’t see any of the episodes with no ability to play them. Have only noticed it occurring in the late evening (US Eastern). Sometimes force stopping the app and restarting the phone helps, sometimes it doesn’t.
Pixel 6, Android 13, App version 7.46.2

Can someone provide an explanation on how to sideload an old version that works? I’d really like to get Pocket Casts working, but I haven’t sideloaded anything in close to 10 years. Is there a recommended version to try for maximum safety, like 7.44?
Thanks!

Thank you @rinsedcyclist, I appreciate the link!
That looks like it’ll take more time than I have. I’ll just use this as an opportunity to try another podcast app. Hopefully Pocket Casts gets fixed quickly!
