player stopping after a few seconds via Android Auto

    Hi,

    For the past 2 days anything I’ve played on PocketCast when sent to my car via Android Auto has stopped after a couple of seconds. My battery settings are unrestricted, I’ve cleared cache and I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled pocket cast.

    using v. 7.80(9303) on a Samsung S23.

    What can we do to resolve it? It’s unusable right now.

    Can you confirm with us what exactly is happening?

    For example, is the app crashing on Android Auto? If so, does it work properly when you use it on your phone itself?

    Also, please let us know:

    • Does it stop working when you attempt to play an episode, or just when opening the app?
    • If it is during playback, what happens if you attempt to listen to a downloaded episode?

    We will be able to advise further once we have this further information!

    I’ve been having the same problem. Podcasts will pause after about 3 seconds every time I hit play. Oddly this error only seems to appear when using wireless Android auto. When I disable Bluetooth and connect it using a USB connection it plays without issues.

    The issue happens when you are attempting to play an episode, and still occurs with downloaded episodes.

    Same problem here. Oddly, if I open the app from my phone, play from there and leave it open but turn my screen off before it pauses I can get it to play. Obviously not a good long term solution. I’ve tried everything I can think of.

    The app runs on the phone fine and doesn’t crash. It happens during playback, both downloaded and not.

    The next step would be to view the logs after this happens again when Bluetooth is enabled. If you can copy the last part of the logs where the timing matches when you started playback + noticed the pauses and paste it here, it would be really helpful!

    I’m actually experiencing the same issue but noticed that when my phone FIRST connects and does this I get a small pop up error at the bottom of my phone screen from Libby (which wasn’t even open in memory at all) so I’m wondering if that could be part of the issue. YouTube music has the same behavior as pocketcast as well. My GF has this same issue in YouTube music. She doesn’t use pocketcast at all but does have Libby. Just curious if others here also have Libby installed and if they could be the actual issue.

    I don’t have Libby installed. I was able to fix this issue by reverting to version 7.54.

    That is certainly interesting. We have not had any other reports of Libby causing such issues before. It could be a coincidence, but I’ve added this info to the bug report for a closer look

    I hit play 3 times on the infotainment screen where it paused after 2-3 seconds each time. The I hit play 3 times on phone itself with the same behavior. Then I did a weird trick I discovered when I tried to video record its behavior. If I start recording on my camera, it will play and keep playing no problem until I pause it, which I did for this test. Then I said “OK Google… disregard” because when the assistant goes back to idle, audio will play without any issues, until I manually pause it again. This is the only audio app on my phone with this issue. I can play music with youtube music from the screen, start it, pause it, and resume it again without tricks. Thank you for looking into this.

    Has there been any movement on this issue? I just installed a new wireless Android Auto head unit in my truck and I’m experiencing this issue with PocketCasts. Interestingly, I don’t experience this issue listening to podcasts with Spotify, but I really prefer PocketCasts! Looking forward to seeing a solution! :D

    I just wanted to share that I’m also experiencing this. Installed a Mr12Volt adapter in my old diesel Porsche Cayenne, and had this issue. However, if I turn off the toggle switch for “Audio” under the bluetooth devices option for that connection (but leave the toggle for “Calls” turned on), then it connects fine. Android Auto uses local wifi for your connection, so leaving the phone connection on allows Android Auto to initialize, but disabling “Audio” seems to solve the annoying pausing issue.

    Just wanted to share, in case that’s helpful to y’all on the dev side or to other users here.
