Please Stop This ‘Smart Folders’ Nonsense

Using Pocket Casts is typically a fun experience, but the introduction of this feature has turned it into a jaw-clenching, irritating experience. With almost every interaction, there it is popping up like an unwelcome jack-in-the-box dangling itself in front of you. Only, this one seems to come straight from the world of Steven King. Just when you think it has gone away forever, there it is again.

I am not interested in anything in the world of mobile tech dubbed ‘smart’. I never will be. I have such a short list of podcasts, I can view them all in one list. How is it ‘smart’ to place each one inside a box, doubling the number taps to get to the podcast I want?

How can I suppress this pestilence once and for all please?

  • Hi there, @tommyrot9e0c9208ac

We appreciate you taking the time to share this constructive feedback with us.

Our team have been hard at work on this feature and would like to ensure any issues are addressed, and if improvements need to be made, they are added to our ideas board.

When you say “With almost every interaction”, can you elaborate on what you mean? Any specific steps you follow which causes it to trigger? By design, it should appear if you click the ‘Add Folder’ icon – is that what you are using when noticing it?

Also, please let us know what platform you are using, such as iOS or Android.

Once we have this information, we can look into what further improvements might need to be made if what you are seeing is not intended.

I’ve seen this on my iPhone and a newly acquired Android-based phone.

I haven’t logged everywhere it appears, so take this with a pinch of salt, but I think it appears at the bottom of the next-up queue. I think when the app is first installed, it springs up at you. And it seems like it has a life of its own, appearing whenever the product owners decide they want to push it on us.

Bottom line is I just don’t want anything dubbed ‘smart’ (translation: AI) thrust at me, please.

  • @tommyrot9e0c9208ac thanks for clarifying this with us. I can confirm that your feedback has been relayed to our team :)
