Pocketcasrs unresponsive
-
While fine yesterday, the app today won’t do anything: shows no podcasts, won’t search, won’t load profile. I’m on Android and app version 7.46-rc-4 from 2023-09-01.
anyome having similar problems?

Yes; exact same behavior. I’m on Android 7.46 (9135) from a couple of days ago. Google 6 phone.
-
same here, same version, and many people on the reddit sub. Apparently it’s due to the update from yesterday Sept 4th.
-
I am having the same problem. I think there must have been an upgrade that is the problem. This happened a couple years ago as well. I have contacted their support. I am currently logging into their website to play my podcasts.

Recently, Pocket Casts becomes unresponsive for me as well. It works for a while, but then freezes up and sometimes I get an Android popup asking me if I want to close the app or wait.
My mobile phone is a Pixel 4a (5G). My Android version is 13 with build number TQ3A.230805.001

Well at least it’s not just me. :)
My specific experience since the app last updated two days ago (latest Android version specifically) is that it will ONLY work while not connected to a wifi network. Mobile network only.

Thanks everyone for reporting this. We’re been working hard on getting this fixed.
How frequently does this happen for you all? We’re having trouble reproducing this, so any steps to reproduce the problem would be helpful.
Also, has anyone experienced these problems on any of the 7.47 release candidates? (you would only see these if you’re a beta tester)

That’s helpful @adamd1one, thank you. Do you have the
Advanced→Sync on metered networkssetting turned on or off? Likewise, do you have the setting forAuto download→Only on unmetered WiFion or off? I’m just trying to figure out what your app might be doing differently while not connected to wifi. -

“Only on unmetered WiFi” = “On”
“Sync on Metered Networks” is set to “on” (I hjave never in my life ever touched that setting in the years I’ve been using this app, so that’s likely how it has always been set.)

Yes, I have “Only on unmetered Wifi” = On.
I’m not knowledgeable enough about that that option does and whether there’s a “right” answer.
Had problem at home though when on great connection and cracking speed.
In terms of the reproducibility question in the thread, things since to have been okay for the last 3 days. -
Im affected also:
Im an android beta tester, via play store. but i cant see the v7.47 you mention.
I have V7.46 (9135)
Pixel 6a
sync on metered networks = on
Autodownload / only on unmetered WiFi = off
Same issue on and off for the last 6 days, seems to work sometimes but not other. when its not working i see the text above the “refresh now” button, at the bottom of profile screen, stuck on “refreshing”

Morning team.
The problem persists. One Sunday. Twice Monday. Once so far on Tuesday. Today’s was at the end of a podcast; both that episode and the next in the queue were already downloaded locally. The other three times it was mid-episode.
Seems to work again (slowly) after rebooting the entire phone, although required two reboots one time yesterday.
This is inconvenient and frustrating. Are you any closer to a resolution, please?
With hope,
Matt

This same thing is happening to me. The app basically doesn’t work on Android 13. It won’t load my podcasts, then when it does it won’t play anything or add anything to my queue, and then if I get a podcast to play it won’t stop. What is the plan to fix this?
-
I am using a Galaxy S23+ running Android 13 and One UI 5.1.
I am having similar problems. The app was kind of flaky this past week, sometimes working and sometimes not. It hasn’t worked at all for the past few days. Any time I try to launch a podcast, I just see a black screen with the last podcast I listened to at the bottom of the screen.

Google has approved
7.46.2, and it is starting to roll out. Let us know how it goes with the new version, particularly if you continue to have problems. -

@onremlop Can you reach out to support as described here: https://support.pocketcasts.com/contact-us/ and share app logs with us so that we can assist you better? Thanks!

Just to update further: this issue is STILL not fixed!
I went as far as to buy an entirely new and up-to-date Android phone (Pixel 7a now running Android v.14 (upgraded last night.) I installed the latest version of Pocket Casts: v7.48 (9150)
Unless I ONLY USE my mobile 5g network, the app shows me nothing. I get a blank screen when selecting any podcast at all. No episodes are shown. I have to turn off WiFi completely to get it to show me anything.
Several of the podcasts show no icon or thumbnail image.
I wrote a negative review about this app because since June this app has been broken. You responded directly claiming – falsely – as follows:
“We recently released version 7.47, which should resolve the issues you’ve been having in the app.”
This is 100% incorrect. The exact same issues persist. You have failed to address the numerous issues this app is having for MONTHS now. What the hell is going on?!?! When are you going to fix this broken application?!

@adamd1one Thanks for letting us know we need to keep working on this. We will until it’s fixed.
Can you switch from “Only on unmetered WiFi” = “On” to “off” and let me know if that improves things? It will also help to know if you’re using a VPN or ad-blocker on your devices, as that can cause this kind of trouble. We’d also appreciate it if you can follow the guide here to https://support.pocketcasts.com/contact-us/ share app logs with us
