Pocketcast fails to load after exiting car and returning
-
Device: Pixel 8 and Pixel 9
Vehicle: Tesla Model Y 2020 and 2024
Steps to recreate:
- Connect phone to car Bluetooth
- Open Pocketcast and play any podcast through Bluetooth
- Exit the vehicle for a few minutes (eg run into a store to grab an order)
- Return to the vehicle
- Observe that phone has reconnect to Bluetooth
- Observe that (sometimes) media player controls on vehicle info screen display podcast name
Expected behavior:
- Press play on the vehicle touchscreen, and podcast should resume
Observed behavior:
- Podcast does not resume, Play button on car info screen is grayed out, and/or disappears and lists no media source at all (despite phone remaining connected to car Bluetooth)
Workaround:
- Open/unlock phone, open Pocketcast app. Immediately once the app is opened, car info screen media controls show the active podcast name and respond as expected, eg hit play to resume playback.
I do not have any battery savings restrictions enabled for the pocketcast app. I have all notifications allowed for pocketcast app.

Hi @crimsongravatar – Sorry for the delay, we’re working on reproducing this issue, and will get back to you as soon as we can.

@crimsongravatar We still haven’t been able to replicate the behavior you’re experiencing. Can you let us know if you’ve experienced the same behavior on other apps you use? This can help us narrow down the cause of the issue.

I don’t experience it on YouTube Music app, nor on the Phish Tapes app. Phish Tapes is actually open source in case that helps you compare their Bluetooth resume or audio player loading/unloading approach.

(Neverending Splendor == Phish Tapes == RoboPhish)
I will try to get a video of this if I can.

Thank you for sharing that @crimsongravatar. The video would be very helpful — please share it when you can.
