Pocketcasts involuntarily wiped

I’ve been a Pocketcasts user for about two years. Last night, I updated Pocketcasts to the latest version, as I do whenever an update comes available. Worked great. Then, at 2pm PST today, I went to continue listening to an episode I was working on. I unlocked my phone, and hit play from the Pocketcasts mainscreen. The app disappeared, returning me to the home page. I reopened it, and found myself looking at an app with no podcasts subscribed (I have hundreds), no podcasts in the queue, no listening history, no starred episodes, and no downloads. I’d done nothing other than hit the play button.

I decided to log out and log back in. Upon logging in, my podcasts repopulated, and my starred podcasts returned. But my queue of 125 to-listen episodes remained empty, as is my listening history and downloads (they’re still downloaded, but they don’t register in the app until I re-download them).

I’m a free user, so Pocketcasts won’t help me. But this seems like an issue they should give a damn about. How is it possible that Pocketcasts involuntarily wiped itself? Also, there was no crash notification, and no option to save a log or report the issue to Pocketcasts. The app re-opened with no problems and looked like it does when someone first downloads it.

Why isn’t the queue and listening history saved in my account history, along with subscription and starred episodes? How do I prevent this from happening again?

I can imagine how frustrating this must be!

Just to clarify, we still provide support to our free users via the forum. We appreciate that you have posted your question here so that others who might be affected by a similar issue can benefit from our response.

This is certainly very odd. We’d appreciate some additional information to help us investigate what might have happened here. We’ve replied to your email requesting your app logs to see if it mentions anything that might help with the investigation.

Those are also meant to be synced to your account, as explained here. It is certainly an odd case and something we’ll need to look into

Please keep an eye out for our email. If others are also facing a similar issue, please feel free to comment below
