Podcast stops every time I receive a notification on my Pixel 8 Pro

This maddening thing only began when I got my Pixel 8 Pro. When listening to a podcast, and a notification comes in on my phone, it stops the podcast all together. I have double and triple checked the settings in the Pocket Casts app (of which I have not altered). For the life of me, I cannot figure out why this is suddenly happening!
Anyone else seeing this?

I have a Pixel 8 (not Pro), and haven’t had that issue. Does it happen every time there is a notification from any app, or just with notifications from certain apps?

I have a pixel 8 (non pro) and it just started doing this (7 months after OP) particularly garmin lap notifications (voice notification). It was set not to play over notifications, but was previously working. Trying the duck volume option now.
