Podcasts keep skipping backwards
-
I start listening to a podcast then every so often it will jump back maybe 30 seconds or more but doesn’t show on the running time. This happens enough times per podcast that it often cuts off the end as it thinks the podcast has finished. Anyone else having this issue?

We’ve been working on updates to address this problem, and we’re sorry to hear that it’s still occurring for you.
To help us pinpoint the cause, please provide the following information:
- What device are you using Pocket Casts on (e.g., iPhone, Android, Mac)?
- What version of the operating system is your device running?
- Which version of Pocket Casts are you using?
- Where are you located geographically?
- Can you share the title or link to the podcast episode you encountered the skipping issue with?
-
sorry for the slow reply.
- I’m using it on iphone
- iOS 17.3.1
- most up to date PocketCasts
- UK
- Happens a lot on Totally Football podcast and Casefile but also others
-
Are you using any headphones or Bluetooth devices?
When you said it doesn’t show the runtime, could you provide a screenshot of what you see?

Hello,
I wanted to use this thread to also report that the same is happening to me. I am using an Iphone 12 Pro Max with IOS 18.1 and the latest version of the PocketCast app. I am usually listening with Bluetooth headphones or a Bluetooth speaker. I am located in EU and it happens on most podcasts I listen too but most recently and I feel like most frequently on the Waveform podcast (Final Cut Pro Gets an Update! at the times indicated bellow).
When jamharre65942cef5 said it doesn’t show on the timeline I belive what they ment was that the backwards “skip” is not reflected. For example the podcast would be at 1:04:03 and then the audio will “skip back”/rewind for ~30 sec but the time would remain at 1:04:03 and continue from there however the audio would now be repeating the last ~30 sec and then continue on with the episode.
When the podcast ends it would then end at the “original” length shown on the timeline (ex. 1:17:55) however since the audio repeted it would cut off abrubtly mid sentence (as if it ended at ~1:17:25). This is especially apparent if the rewind happens multiple times per episode.
If I exit out of the podcast and play it again it doesn’t happen at the same time on the same episode so replicating might be hard. I am streaming the episodes rather than downloading them which might be causing the issue however the same issue doesn’t happen on other apps.
I also found some 4(+)years old reddit threads with people complaining about this issue so it seems it’s an old presistant bug in the app. (https://www.reddit.com/r/pocketcasts/comments/ly06l6/podcasts_randomly_skipping_forward_and_rewinding/, https://www.reddit.com/r/pocketcasts/comments/ezy99y/skips_backwards_randomly/) Also there is already a Github issue detailng this https://github.com/Automattic/pocket-casts-ios/issues/44 and here https://github.com/Automattic/pocket-casts-android/issues/157.
Hope there is a fix soon as it makes it hard to use the app and I would prefer not to switch to another one.
Best regards -
Hi all yes bartimeus98 is correct (sorry maybe I didn’t explain it very well). I am having exactly the same issue bartimeus98 describes.
Also to answer staff-dexter’s query – yes I am using bluetooth earphones to listen to the podcasts.
Thanks

@bartimeus98 Thank you for providing the detailed explanation of what happened!
@jamharre65942cef5 Thanks also for confirming you’re using Bluetooth earphones!
We’ll note down all of these while we continue to work on the issue. Thanks again, everyone!
