Podcasts not playing, screens not refreshing
-
Pocket cast has worked perfectly for the last few years. However, over the last week it has become problematic. The ‘Play’ arrow has no effect. When I select new podcasts they take a long time to load or don’t load at all. When a page tries to refresh I just get the swirly symbol and the page remains blank. All of these are new developments. I have checked the internet connection and that doesn’t seem to be the problem. I have cleared the cache and removed any battery saving functions.

You are not alone. The past three nights the app has been useless. I was hoping to see some maintenance update notice accompanied by an email but nothing.

@martinwjwall and @loudlycycleb425de2ae6 Can you let us know the following so we can look into what you’ve been experiencing?
- The OS version on your device – you can usually find this from your phone’s Settings
- Your Pocket Casts app version – you can see this from the Pocket Casts app’s Profile > Settings (gear icon) > About
-
similar. App crashed as soon as I hit play on a podcast. Happened repeatedly. I restarted phone and went to App Store where it said there was an update. I updated and had the same thing happen again. I’m using IPhone 13 iOS 18.3.1

Hi there, @tedmatula! When you have a moment, could you also share the Pocket Casts app version found in Profile > Settings (gear icon) > About. This will help us with when investigating the app crashing issue. Thank you!
-
Having the same problem for about a week. Using an iPhone with 18.3.1, Pocket Cast version 7.82.2. Multiple times a day I have to switch mid-episode to a different podcast app, and it always works fine. Extremely frustrating.

@dreamilychief7a3a2dab46 Does the issue only happen with specific shows or does it affect all shows? Have you tried switching to wifi or mobile data to check if it could be caused by a network issue?
-
I am using Android version 11. The pocket casts version is 7.83.
I haven’t found any podcasts yet where I am not having this problem
Thanks

@martinwjwall interesting! Can you email your logs to us, as per: https://support.pocketcasts.com/knowledge-base/collecting-app-logs/
Once done, let us know here!

It affects all shows. I haven’t checked wifi versus cell. I typically only listen on wifi. Multiple times I have had to switch to Apple Podcasts to be able to listen to the end of a show.
I will say it did not happen once today.

Hi there, @dreamilychief7a3a2dab46! That certainly sounds frustrating and isn’t the experience we would like you have on the app. Could you share if the issue is only with one podcast or all episodes you play? And, if this continues after updating your device, app, and restarting?
If you continue to have trouble with this, please send us a message by following these steps: https://support.pocketcasts.com/knowledge-base/collecting-app-logs/ And, mention this forum thread for reference. Thank you! -
It has not happened yet this week.
I believe I already answered your other questions that is not confined to one type or episode of a podcast. It has happened with multiple episodes from different shows. As I think I already said. And yes like everyone else I have restarted the device multiple times to no avail. But as of Friday it has not happened again so something must have changed. If it recurs I will submit the logs.

I’m now having this issue – on both a Google pixel 6a & 9a. I continuously receive “streaming failed try downloading” then the subsequent download fails. Really frustrating as a paying customer. It doesn’t seem to occur with all podcasts but I can confirm it happened with Calling Home and This is History. I’ve cleared caches, restarted, both phones are up to date so absolutely is an app issue.
-
Same. Just started today/now. Two podcasts are affected by this on all platforms that i run Pocketcasts (Android, iPad, Web). Just keeps buffering endlessly and then fails saying “streaming failed try downloading”. Downloads fail as well.
I’m guessing they are either proxying the content or hosting it themselfs and something is wrong there. Hopefully this gets fixed quickly. -
Just to add to my previous post. I don’t think in my case it’s a Pocketcasts specific issue, but rather an issue of the original podcast provider, as Apple Podcast seems to have an issue with the exact same podcasts.
-
Hi @sducceschi – Thanks for the update. That does sound like it might be an issue with the feed itself, if it’s limited to specific podcasts and you’re also seeing the same issue on other platforms.
@hcwaara It would be great to get your app logs so we can look into it for you. Please send us a message by following these steps: https://support.pocketcasts.com/knowledge-base/collecting-app-logs/ and mention this forum thread for reference. Thank you!

The app has been crashing for weeks for me. It’s basically unusuable. The podcats won’t show up. If they do they won’t play. If it does decide to play it’s like 10 mins later. Works fine when in my car using Android Auto but on my phone, no. Im extremely annoyed
