Private podcast feed is not updating
-
NPR’s Up First Plus has shown up on these forums before (the topic is closed or I’d add onto it), and it’s a problem that comes and goes.
Right now I can go directly to my Plus feed and download the MP3 enclosure link from the RSS for today’s entry and it plays just fine, but Pocket Casts gets hung up on “Download failed.” Not sure how to force Pocket Casts to re-retrieve the original RSS when this happens. -
Hi @silverseams – we’ve updated the feed on our end; would you check and confirm if it’s working on your end?
-
It is. Was that a long-term fix, or just refreshing it this one time? (Because it’s a morning news podcast; getting it the next day is kinda silly, and it seems like they have a download-failed every few weeks. They usually have it fixed fairly quickly, but I don’t know how to force Pocket Casts to pull a new RSS from source.)

@silverseams NPR has another podcast that we’ve run into trouble with recently. It’s a frequently updated podcast where there is only one episode in the feed and the older episodes are removed when a new episode is released. Because of how that podcast is published and how we refresh feeds on our end, there can be instances where the older episode is removed before we discover the new one on our end. It sounds like that is the podcast you’re referring to about the other thread.
With this podcast, though, we haven’t found there to be a widespread recurring issue with episode downloads. So I suspect everything will be good going forward. However, if the podcast author needs to replace an episode file for some reason, it may happen again.
With this specific instance, we’ve refreshed the feed to ensure it has the latest episodes, if you run into any trouble with it in the future, please let us know!

It’s happened again. I’ve found a workaround, which is to use a podcast app that lets me just pull down to directly refresh the original RSS instead of visiting a forum to request that someone do it for me.
-
@silverseams, we have implemented the ability to refresh a feed directly within the app when there are errors for it. However, this isn’t available for all podcasts yet.
If you’re still experiencing this issue on your end and would like to continue using Pocket Casts, we’d be happy to reach out to you by email for more information and continue from there to investigate this further. We know that there has been some trouble with NPR podcasts recently, as I mentioned in my previous message, and we’re doing our best to try and prevent any of these issues from occurring going forward.
However, if you’d still prefer to move to a different podcast app, you can certainly do so. Pocket Casts offers the ability to export subscriptions in OPML format, which you can use to migrate to your preferred app.
Export on iOS
Export on AndroidAnd if, down the line, you decide that you’d like to return, we also support importing subscription in OPML format as well.

this is happening to me with NPR’s News Now Plus feed. Adding the feed from scratch correctly shows new episodes initially, but once I add the feed it devolves to the stale cloud data. Apple Podcasts works fine with the same feed.
-
oh and the mentioned pull to refresh feature says “REFRESHING EPISODE LIST…” and then does nothing.
-
never mind – adding from scratch via the rss url (not the Pocket Casts link, which just opened the stale feed again) fixed this for me, seems like. Bizarre.
