Request: Hide or remove file extensions from uploaded cloud files

Basically the title, if I upload a bunch of mp3 files, all the titles in the files list end with “.mp3” even though I don’t really need to see that in a title.

I curate the files I upload so the filenames are pretty clear, but even if I didn’t, having the lingering “.mp3” “.wav” “.mp4” isn’t going to help me find anything and really just makes the titles read more cluttered.

Would like an option (or maybe default behavior) to strip the extension from the titles, or maybe just a toggle option to not show them.

Also, related, since clearly the ID3 tags are being read in order to extract the image shown in the cloud files listing, perhaps the ID3 tags could be used instead of just the filename as the default title?

This is less pressing but could be a nice option to power users of the cloud files.

And yes, I know you can edit the titles themselves but doing this manually over many many files is tedious.

  • Thanks for making this feature request, @shinyraspberryb638c5e784! I appreciate how detailed it is too, as it clearly shows why this would be important to you. I’ve made sure to share your comments with the rest of the team so this can be considered for future development.

Any idea if this will be implemented? Or any other improvements to the cloud files?

  • Hi there, thanks for asking about this! There have been some improvement to the Files feature. When you upload a file at Profile > Files, you’ll find that the file extension is removed. And, you can choose a color for the icon. However, the removal of the file extension is not retroactive. To change the current files you do need to manually edit them. If you meant something else, let us know so we can get the right info. to you!
