Resume playback on Apple Watch after starting episode from Iphone

    For what it’s worth, these are the devices I am using with my Pocketcasts Plus subscription: iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple Watch Series 8 with cellular & Bose QuietComfort II earbuds.

    I’ve had this continued problem for a year now and it seems to be more sporadic, than consistent but I’m having a hard time pinpointing the source of the error. Let’s say I’m at my home listening to a podcast on my earbuds with my phone being the play source. I’m doing chores, etc. and want to continue the episode from my watch as the play source so I don’t need to carry my phone around to stay in bluetooth range of the earbuds. I typically pause the episode on my phone, go to pocketcasts on my watch and click ‘refresh data’ to sync. Then I connect my earbuds to my watch, go to ‘now playing’ on the watch play source and click play. About 50% of the time, the episode will continue playing from my watch with no problems. The other 50%, the second I click play on the watch, it wont do anything. The symbol changes to pause for half a second and the data wheel on the screen spins for a half a second and stops. Changing the episode, restarting the watch, unpairing and then repairing the earbuds won’t break this glitch until I remove the app from my watch and then install it right back. I don’t know if this issue is due to bluetooth, wifi or cellular- or if something else all-together. I’m hoping someone has a similar experience that could shed some light on what the problem may be. Before getting an apple watch, I didn’t realize just closely tethered the watch and phone are which is why I got a cellular plan, so that I could continue streaming data from my watch when stepping out of range of wifi and not be so dependent on my phone, but so goes life.

  • Hi, @mitchsthomas! It would be helpful to get app logs to look into your particular issue. So, right after you experience the issue again, can you please take the following steps?

    1. Open the iPhone app, and go to Profile > Settings (gear icon) > Help & Feedback
    2. Before tapping “Get in touch”, open the Pocket Casts app on your watch
    3. Tap “Get in touch,” then “Get Support.” The email that comes up should have 2 attachments instead of the usual 1—one will be the phone log, the other the watch log.

    In the email, it would be helpful if you can add a link to this forum thread, as well as mention the title of the episode you tried listening to.
