save for later

I don’t know if I’m alone here… but I would love to see a way to group and mark interesting podcast episodes as saved for later in the feed without adding them to the up next queue or downloading them (what I do currently) or having to star them (would like to reserve that for those I really like).

I have a long commute, really broad interests with learning as my signature strength (lol) and there is a podcast for everything, which means I have ~125GB of podcasts downloaded I want to eventually listen too and unfortunately my year or so old samsung phone doesn’t have external memory ….

I’m open to suggestions to sort things better if anyone has tips…but currently I just download interesting episodes and set the feed upto sort by downloaded and not (hiding archived ones I’ve listened to) and then I bump to the up next list when I want to dive into them (I often rotate automobile university studies…. listening to nutrition ones for awhile, then exercise, then investing, then parenting, then spirituality, then……) and every few weeks when I’m bored I’ll look at all the random podcasts I like and just download new ones that look interesting, etc. for future reference…

Thanks in advance for any insight or possibly making a way to group feeds into a new category, something like marked interesting or something along those lines that separates them to play later without downloading/starring

  • One thing that you could do to accomplish this is to create a Playlist and give it a name like “Save for Later”. Then whenever you have an episode like this that you’d like to save, you could add it to that playlist. You can find more information about the Playlists feature here:

    https://support.pocketcasts.com/knowledge-base/playlists/

But if that doesn’t quite accomplish what you’re aiming for, please let us know!

True, good idea. Will take some time to pivot to and I already have a bunch of Playlists organizing ones i want to listen to by duration (0-30min, 30-60, etc) but itd be a way to avoid downloading

I looked at it a little yesterday and think I saw that there is no way to add specific episodes from the podcast feed to a playlist on my phone where I have them already separated by download status which would be ideal in general and specifically for my use (add all downloaded to playlist so i could delete downloaded files) so i’d have to add them after making a new playlist from the feed list that isn’t pre-sorted (?! sorry if that makes little/no sense lol)

It does look like on my computer I can add specific episodes from a feed to a playlist, but they are not separated out by those I’ve already downloaded

I could be wrong but it seems like i could/would have to given the current settings use my phone to see what i’ve downloaded than find and add them to a new playlist via the computer….

or possibly star everything i’ve downloaded on my phone, than use the starred filter on the computer to add to a new playlist….

or just star everything downloaded on my phone, delete all the downloads, and update the smart playlists to filter out by starred instead of downloaded and group feeds by starred instead of download status (this is likely best option…it looks like i’ve only starred a few previously that I must have thought would be worth re-listening too)…

  • You should be able to add episodes to a playlist from any list within the app, including from another playlist or the podcast details screen.

You can swipe from right to left on an episode in the list to reveal options for it — the + button that’s show will let you add that episode to a Playlist.

For some reason, sliding only seems to show add to/create a new playlist and doesn’t list any of the lists I already have…but I made a new playlist with a smart rule to include everything I’ve downloaded, then I highlighted all to star each one before updating all my other smart playlists filters to include starred episodes regardless of download status and deleted all the longer episodes/bigger files I had downloaded to free up a good bit of space and figure as I listen to others, they’ll delete as I archive them and moving forward every new episode that catches my interest I’ll just star instead of download
