Seeking basic guidance
-
For something like the last 15 years(!), I’ve been using PodTrapper, an ancient but full-featured podcast app. I actually originally bought the license for my BlackBerry (remember those?) and then was able to apply it for the same app on Android. But my new phone refuses to install it. Hence my discovering of Pocket Casts. :)
So I’m finding myself to be a Rip Van Winkle, waking up after so many years and finding the modern world strange. Although I’m thoroughly familiar with podcasts and listening to them, I’m having trouble orienting myself in Pocket Casts.
I’ve got all my podcasts in Pocket Casts already. And I know how to remove (archieve) all the episodes I’ve already listened to. But I can’t figure out how to actually get the rest of the still unlistened-to episodes to actually download and find their way into a playlist.
Where can I find a basic resource or perhaps good intro video? (Yes, I’ve looked myself.)

@ebroder2014 we’re glad to have you aboard :)
But I can’t figure out how to actually get the rest of the still unlistened-to episodes to actually download and find their way into a playlist.
My suggestion would be to use the Filters feature to create an ‘Unplayed’ filter: https://support.pocketcasts.com/knowledge-base/episode-filters/
Once done, you can go to the filter settings and enable ‘Auto Download’, so that these episodes get downloaded. You can then play the ‘Filter’ to listen to all of these episodes.
Pocket Casts is really flexible, so you could also look into the Auto Add to Up Next feature, but that will only apply to new episodes: https://support.pocketcasts.com/knowledge-base/up-next-continuous-playback/
Feel free to let us know if you have more questions :))

Thank you very much, @staff-joey8!
I have some podcasts that I’m many episodes behind. How do I have it add the oldest episode to Up Next, immediately after I finish listening to a previous episode of the same podcast?
-
I have two groups of podcasts, my “class A” group and then a “class B” group. I want to finish listening to all in the “A” group before listening to the “B” group. I made a filter for “A” and a separate filter for “B”.
But is there a way to instead play all the “A” group and then automatically play the “B” group until there’s something in the “A” group then play “A”?
I doubt there’s a way to do this with multiple filters. But is there a way to prioritize them either within one filter or in some other way?

Hi @reblazer! I’m glad you’re exploring the app. There are several ways to sort your podcast episodes.
> How do I have it add the oldest episode to Up NextWhen you view the Podcast page (the one where the podcast’s episodes are listed), you can click (tap) on the three-dots next to the search bar to view Sorting options. You can sort the episodes from Oldest to Newest (more on sorting here). Then, long press on an episode to open up the select checkbox. You can select the episodes to sent over to the Up Next queue. When you view Up Next, you’ll see the episodes are added by oldest first.
> But is there a way to prioritize them either within one filter or in some other way?
There is not a way to do this automatically. However, when you are in a filter you can click the three-dot menu at the top right (vertical dots) to view more options. Select “Play All” to send those episodes to the Up Next queue. For example, for Filter “A” you can use the Play All option to send the episodes to Up Next. This works well for one filter at a time.
Here’s another option for adding episodes from multiple filters. Open one of the Filters, such as Filter “A”. Long-press on an episode to open the select checkbox (multi-select). Select the episodes to add to Up Next. Or, to select all episodes, long-press on an episodes to view the check-boxes. Click the three-dot menu at the top right, then click on “Select all”. All episodes will be selected.
After the episodes are selected, click the Up Next icon at the top right (the one with the plus sign) to send the selected episodes to the Up Next queue. Then, go back to Filter “B”, and follow the same steps to send the episodes over to the queue. When you view the Up Next queue you’ll see the episodes from both filters on the list. You can also long-press an episode there to open the option to rearrange the episodes if needed.
I hope this helps point you in the right direction. Let us know if you have any other questions about this as you get started.
