Serbian translation
-
Hi there,
I was directed here from the WordPress forums. But do let me know if this isn’t the right place.
I’d love to help translate PocketCasts in Serbian. Can this be added as a language in GlotPress? Once added, I’m ready to jump in!
Thanks,
Aleks

Hi, Aleks (@aleksmicovic)! Really appreciate your interest in helping with the translations for Pocket Casts into Serbian. Which of the apps—iOS, Android, web, or desktop—are you interested in helping with first? We can look into adding the locale on GlotPress.

Hi Cara,
I’d start with iOS and desktop/web since those are the two platforms I use the most.
Thanks!

Thanks, @aleksmicovic! I’ve reached out to the team in charge of this, and we’ll keep you updated with next steps as soon as we hear back from them.

@aleksmicovic We started by adding Serbian to GlotPress for the iOS app:
https://translate.wordpress.com/projects/pocket-casts/ios/sr/default/
Please note that translations won’t be immediately available. Once the translation coverage is increased, however, the Pocket Casts team will add Serbian to the app. If you will be adding a lot of translations, please let us know, and we can look into making you a validator in GlotPress.
Thanks again for your help with this!

Hi Cara,
Thanks so much for the prompt reply and speedy setup! My goal is to translate the entire app, so yes, I will be adding a lot of translations over the coming weeks.
Small question, I’ve already come across a potential limitation related to plural complexities that languages such as Serbian, Russian, Polish, etc. have. Namely, that it’s impossible to translate some strings such as “Included In %1$@ Smart Playlists” so that’s grammatically correct in all cases. For example, 2 to 5 playlists would be one string, but five or more would be another. PocketCasts supports the singular case but lumps all plurals together.
Is this something I should open a Github issue to resolve, or is there a way to resolve it in GlotPress?

@aleksmicovic I’ve reached out to our team regarding this and will be sure to follow-up once we have more information to share.

@aleksmicovic We can grant you validator access for the app. You just need to have two-factor authentication activated. Once you’ve done that, please let us know your username in GlotPress so we can handle it.

Plurals are, unfortunately, complex in the apps. There are plural forms for 0,1, and many, but the current situation doesn’t cover languages with more plurals. We will likely need to file this with the developers to see if they can add additional plurals, but we won’t be able to give a timeline for when that might become available.

My GlotPress login is my WordPress one (this one) which already has 2FA.
Understood on the final point. I’ll open an issue on Github. Thanks!

The Serbian page for iOS seems to have disappeared?

My GlotPress login is my WordPress one (this one) which already has 2FA.
After doubling checking your account information, it looks like 2FA isn’t currently enabled. You can set that up from our Two-Step Authentication page in WordPress.com’s Settings.
Let us know once that’s Two-Step Authentication is enabled and you see a green checkmark next to it in the Security Checklist here:

Just following up regarding this question:
The Serbian page for iOS seems to have disappeared?
I’ve heard back from our development team on this — unfortunately, we had to revert to an old version of GlotPress, due to some issues in the imports and inaccurate translations getting in the database. This wiped everything that was added to GlotPress after last Thursday.
But we have re-added Serbian to the iOS language sets, you can see it listed from the main Pocket Casts page here:
-
2FA was marked green (enabled) but I assume the system needs a pass key since that wasn’t enabled. I’ve added one now.
Thanks for getting it up and running again!
-
@aleksmicovic I’m seeing it enabled on our end now! I’ve reached out to our team to have you set as a validator in GlotPress. Since it’s a Friday, it may take a few days for that change to be made, but if it hasn’t been done by early next week, please let us know and I can double check on the status of that for you!
