Sharing podcasts no longer works
-
Since the podcast links were changed to a new web design, the link previews do not work in either WhatsApp or Signal. Apart from that, you now have to first click on “Show web version” in the browser to access the podcast, a questionable and at least annoying design decision. In addition, I was unable to play the podcast on the new website on any of my mobile browsers (Firefox, Vivaldi). When I tap on “Play”, nothing happens. As a result, it is currently no longer possible to share podcasts with others who do not have the Pocket Casts app installed, making the app almost unusable for me.

Hi there, @oyood
Thanks for your feedback!

I can confirm that this should be fixed now :)

Can you elaborate on why you do not like how this works? Our team will really appreciate feedback so we can look into improving it.

This is concerning. I can’t seem to replicate the issue – is it any podcast in particular? Can you share the name of it? If you can share a screen recording, it will really help!
In addition, please ensure you aren’t using a VPN, Adblocker or Firewall when running these tests, as they can often cause blocks like this for certain podcasts.

It took unnecessary actions to get to the podcast. For me, that’s bad UX.

I can’t test it because it is now showing the old version again.
So thank you for fixing it :)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. I’ll forward this feedback along to our development team.

I am having this same issue on the Android app and the web. Episode preview links no longer show any episode info or visuals, only the Web Player link.

@girlnamedrob thank you for your feedback on this, I’ll make sure to forward this along to our development team.

I have just tried to send a “current position” url to Viber messaging app, there is no thumbnail of the podcast and the title is just Web Player – Pocket Casts. It used to work in the past.

Yes, the phone is on Android 14 and Pocket Casts is Version 7.89 (9340). An example url: https://pca.st/episode/8a136f3c-ab57-4cde-952c-27045fb7e18c?t=6420

We’ve heard back from our development team and they’re working on a fix that should address these issues. We don’t currently have an estimated timeframe for a release, but hopefully they will be ready soon.
-
It is defect again, as the og meta tags are missing in all tested podcasts when using the share link: https://pca.st/episode
but it works when using the long link:

Hi!
We’ve made a few changes in the last few days that should have improved the situation.
Can somebody on this thread confirm things are working for them and, if not, share the links and/or instructions on how to reproduce the problem?
Please, test with new/different URLs as the previous ones might be cached for some time and it will take up to several days to be re-generated by each social network/app.
Thanks for your help debugging this issue and sorry for any inconveniences caused.

Absolutely, I’m running into the same issue — I wanted to share a podcast episode about taper fades, but the link just doesn’t work properly anymore. No preview shows up, and playback on mobile browsers is totally broken. Really hope this gets fixed soon!
