Silence in Acast hosted podcasts
-
Hello!
Long time listener 😀
I got this problem for maybe six months now. I listen to a podcast called Politiken https://www.svd.se/lyssna/politiken
Listening on an Android 15 (One Plus Nord 3 5G) with Pocket Casts 7.100.1
The show is hosted by Acast. I stream the podcast from Pocket Casts (not downloaded in advance). About five minutes in I hear a clicking sound like they are muting their microphones, and the podcast is muted, but it is still running in Pocket Casts. I.e the clock is ticking. The way to solve the problem is to use the skip button and move forward in the pod a bit. Sound is back and the episode runs good after this first mishap. This happens in almost every episode, but only from Podcasts from this newspaper. Everything else on my phone works great.
My guess is that it is a problem with some kind of dynamic ad system, but I am not sure? I am running AdAway on my phone, but I’m not sure if that app handles dynamic ads in podcasts. Any ideas?

Hi, @duelago! To be sure, is this the podcast in question?

This is a very good guess! We have seen similar playback issues before from Dynamic Ad Insertion. A good way to narrow this down would be to completely turn off AdAway for a bit.
Alternatively, you can check if there’s a way to allowlist URLs or apps in AdAway. You can add Pocket Casts to the allowlist and even the podcast’s source file URLs. If the podcast I linked to is correct, here’s an example of one of the podcast’s episode source files:

Thanks! I will try to whitelist the podcast in AdAway.
A new episode arrived today, and I didn’t have the problem, so the problem is a bit intermittent.
