Sleep Timer doesn’t stop
-
I’ve finally pinned this issue down a bit more. At night, I’ll turn a sleep timer on for 15-30 minutes. I’ll fall asleep. Hours later, I’ll wake up and the app is still playing. As soon as I turn my screen on, the “sleep timer” realizes what’s happened and pauses with a “sleep timer has paused” notification.
I assume this is a battery optimization thing, but I have already followed all the other advice for fixing that. I have all the fancy sleep timer settings turned off. Phone battery optimization for the app is set to unrestricted. However, I’m running an ASUS Zenfone 10 and it’s probably set to “ultra durable” battery mode when this is happening.
Other data: Android 14, app version 7.76 (9282).

Hi @c155dc8ba14da26,
Thanks for sharing these details! We’ve added your feedback to our bug report so our development team can investigate further.
In the meantime, would you confirm if you’re able to turn off ultra durable battery mode manually? If you could confirm that ultra durable mode is indeed interfering with our sleep timer, that’d be very helpful for our team.

I have a similar problem.
For me, I set Sleep Timer for 10 minutes. At 10 minutes it lowers the volume but the podcast keeps playing. As it starts a new podcast the volume is reset and it’s loud again and wakes me up!
If, after the volume drops, I turn the screen on, I can see it’s still playing and I have to tap pause manually.

I can confirm, I can unlock my device, go to Pocket Casts and see the timer ticking along… but the volume still muted. (Pixel 9 Pro, latest beta app)

@andycr15fe50bb5196 Thanks for the extra details. We are actively looking into this issue, and hopefully we will have it resolved soon.

I’m a Plus subscriber, and I came here to see if anyone else was experiencing the same issue! I’m using the Android app, 7.78.2. For a while I thought I must be extending the timer while half asleep and not remembering I’d done so in the morning, but a couple of nights ago, I was still awake when the sleep timer ended, and I could see it was still silently chugging along—exactly 15 minutes, the same amount of time I’d set the timer for originally.

I’ve been having the same issue – the sleep timer will turn the volume down but not actually pause playing. As soon as the episode finishes, another one starts playing at the regular volume and wakes me up. It only started a week or two ago, before that I’d never had any issues with the sleep timer in the 5+ years I’ve used the app! Not sure what was updated but it would be really great to be able to use it while falling asleep again 😢

@c155dc8ba14da26, @andycr15fe50bb5196, @loudfan and @ggisacrow If you’re all on Android, there’s a fix for the Sleep Timer that’s planned to be included with version 7.80:

Are those the actual Acceptance Criterea that your engineers use? If so, if I’m honest I can see how bugs get in…
The main problem I’m having would currently pass those AC.
Sleep timer ends – YES
Volume drops off with 5 seconds to go – YESPls add –> Podcast stops playing when timer ends – Not mentioned in AC
It might not be, but thought it worth mentioning. Thanks for the work on this.

Another Android user here on v7.78.2, seeing the issue described above.
The sleep at “End of episode” works fine, cutting the volume and stopping playback as expected.
However, the timed sleep timers cut the volume at the end of the time correctly, but continue silent playback for several minutes. The length of time it continues to play silently does seem related to the original sleep timer length.

Hi @andycr15fe50bb5196 and @litotes,
We have a fix underway that is scheduled to be released for version 7.80. Please be on the lookout for future updates!

I’m so jealous of all of you who are already on 7.80! I check for updates every day, but haven’t gotten it yet…

I finally got the update yesterday, and last night, everything worked perfectly!!! Thank you! (My Pocket Casts Plus subscription renews tomorrow, so this is good timing!)
