Still skipping backward :(

I’ve been a user of PocketCasts since 2017 and a paid user for most of that time. I do like the app a lot, but I’m now regularly (seemingly almost every podcast) having this bug where it will skip back to a point earlier in the show (often a decent chunk).

I’ve seen another post suggesting to download eps, so I’ll try that. This does happen on pods *without* adverts though, just happened for me on one such pod.

It is starting to get annoying enough that I’ll have to move to a different app if it’s not fixed which would be a shame. But this is a pretty massive issue with an app whose primary job is to just play streaming audio. If you can’t get that working properly then the nice interface and useful features are all for nothing!

I do tend to just stream rather than download, but I notice the “Download Up Next” toggle. Could you also add a “Download current podcast” toggle perhaps to auto-download when you just pick a new ep? If downloading is indeed a fix

  • @jndxfnh8fv – our team have been hard at work to find a solution to this issue.

If it is possible, can you share with us the share URL for the specific podcast (only if it is a public podcast)?

Additionally, can you confirm if you are using Pocket Casts:

    • version 7.70?
    • the OS of your device?

Any additional information you can share with us, the better

Hello, I have had the same issue for a long time as well. I have been using Pocket Casts for a number of years and been a premium user for most of that time as well.

On iOS and using the Google Play app in my car, on almost every podcast at some point about a half hour in or longer the episode will skip backwards a random amount of time, but usually several minutes. It rarely seems to happen early on that I can recall, but in the back half of a podcast that lasts about an hour it will almost always happen at least once. I listen to a dozen or more podcast feeds regularly and this occurs on all of them.

On iOS I am always using the latest version of the app, currently 7.70 and I recently got a new iPhone but no change to the issue I’m having. My iOS is always updated to the current version (which is 17.6.1 right now), and I went from an iPhone 11 Pro to an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

I do not know what version of app is in my car, but it has the built-in Google Play features and I use whatever version is available on the Play store. Again, the random skipping backwards while playing a podcast happens here as well.

Also, and this is a fairly new issue, some podcasts cut out at the end. I can’t tell if this is always happening, or even if it is a Pocket Cast thing or the podcasters, because I often stop listening when the show is wrapping up but the last few podcasts I’ve had on have stopped abruptly while the host is still speaking (but clearly about to end).

Thank you for your patience with this issue @caldermuyo. We should have a solution to the skipping issue ready for you in our update 7.72 on iOS.

We are still looking into why this happens on Android when playing on a car. If you can share any details on what version of the app you’re using when the issue happens here, that would be appreciated.

Can you share with us the link to an example episode this has happened to you on and let us know if it’s happening in the iOS app, Android app, or both? We’re here to help

Thank you, I look forward to the fix in iOS!

In my car the Google app is version 7.71a (59264), and my car is running Android 12 patch level June 1, 2024.

The next time I notice an episode ending prematurely I will note it and get back to you, but it has happened in iOS. Thank you again for your help.

  • Thanks for the info @caldermuyo! We’ll look forward your next report if it happens again. We appreciate it.
