Subject: Suggestion for Introducing Smart Speed Feature in Pocket Casts
-
Hello Pocket Casts Team,
Having used the Overcast Podcast app, I was intrigued by its Smart Speed feature. Unlike the existing “Trim Silence” feature in Pocket Casts, Smart Speed intelligently adjusts the playback speed to reduce silences and pauses, resulting in a more efficient yet natural listening experience. I’d like to propose the integration of a similar Smart Speed feature within Pocket Casts.
Smart Speed could offer users the ability to optimize podcast playback without compromising audio quality. By dynamically adjusting the playback speed during moments of silence, Smart Speed would not only save time but also provide a smoother and more engaging listening journey.
Understanding the challenges that come with implementing new features, I believe this addition aligns well with Pocket Casts’ commitment to innovation and user satisfaction. The uniqueness of Smart Speed could set Pocket Casts apart and further solidify its reputation as a leading podcast platform.

Hi @teknevra96!

It sounds like both Trim Silence and Smart Speed are trying to “reduce silences and pauses”. Maybe you’ve found that Smart Speed is doing a better job at it? Can you tell us more about types of audio where Smart Speed does a better job of removing silicence than Trim Silence does?

The Audio is basically any podcast, idk how to explain it, but if go on the Overcast Podcast App and try out the Smart Speed Feature, you’ll see what I mean.
I think the reason that I prefer a smart speed over trim silence, is because smart speed does all the trimming automatically without you having to choose (Short,Medium,Long), plus Smart Speed feels more effective and efficient, as in, you don’t notice that it’s on. Plus it just feels cleaner than Trim Silence.
