Suggestion: Sync Transcript With Playback
-
First of all, thank you for creating such a great podcast app — I’ve been a longtime user and really appreciate the intuitive interface and robust feature set.
One feature I’d love to see improved is the auto-generated transcription functionality. While having a transcript is incredibly useful, it would be even better if the transcript could automatically follow along with the podcast as it plays.
As the episode plays, the current sentence or paragraph in the transcript should be highlighted or auto-scrolled in real-time. This would make it easier to follow along with what’s being said, especially in situations where audio clarity is low or when I’m trying to study the content more attentively.
It would also be helpful for people with hearing difficulties or non-native speakers who rely on written text for comprehension.

Hey @qwertyz666 and @tsgcn thank you for sharing your ideas! I have added to our internal feature request. :)

On the same lines, even if transcript remains static and auto following isn’t possible, there is atleast one improvement that can be done. Often I am listening to a podcast whilst browsing it’s transcript; now if I need to change the speed of the podcast/trim silences, I would need to go back and come back to the transcript. But the latter doesn’t store it’s previous state [where I was x seconds before].I would then need to navigate the whole mass again or search for some keyword and find my way to the current position.
If only transcripts retained their state at which the user last left them, it would still be a great improvement over what is today.

Thanks for sharing your suggestion. i have added it as well to our internal feature request tracker.

That’s a really well-thought-out suggestion. Real-time, auto-scrolling transcriptions would definitely make following along much easier — especially for learners and users with hearing difficulties. Hopefully, the development team considers adding this in a future update.

Yes, please!!! Apple Podcasts does this really well. You’ll always be at the place where you are currently listening, but you can also scroll and even jump to a position later or earlier by clicking on the text. If you just scroll and do nothing, after a bit, it will jump back to the current listening position. This is so well implemented, it makes me want to switch to Apple Podcasts, but there is so much else I miss from Pocket Casts that I always come back.

I would love this too, when I got my new iPhone 17 Pro Max last month I just started using the standard apple podcasts app which in itself is great but I’ve used pocket casts now for 10 years probably at this point and its probably the only feature that I would absolutely want over there – even if you keep it to the + subscribers I would be ok with it as I believe it’s a fantastic feature
