Sync troubles

I recently got a new phone and saw the sync feature advertised if I created an account. So I did and my new phone shows the playback history and podcasts from old phone but that’s about it.

It doesn’t have the played status or favorites status of episodes. Is that expected to sync? I thought it was from the forum page but maybe I misunderstood?

Played status and favorite status should be part of the features that sync. In this guide, you can see the full list of what syncs and what doesn’t sync. As a first step, could you follow our sync troubleshooting guide and let us know how it goes?

Seems it was because I didn’t have an account for the last two years of using the app and thus all that info wasn’t recorded because I just created my account.

Is there really no way for the current status of each episode on my old phone to be uploaded and overwrite data stored with my account?

I’d even consider subscribing if it was available on the pro tier.

  • @dinosaurprofound1eab879991 You’re exactly right, that does happen.

If you had created the new account on the old device, all the existing information should have been uploaded to the account so that it could be synced to other devices.

However, if you created the account on the new device, you would need to use our multi-select tool to update the information and make them match across devices. You can follow our guide here: https://support.pocketcasts.com/knowledge-base/sync-troubleshooting/#htoc-fixing-sync-issues-with-episode-statuses

Sorry my response was confusing. I got my new phone and wanting to transfer so I went to my old phone and created the account and then logged in on my new phone hoping it would show up.

You’re most recent response seems to indicate that should have been a supported use case? But then the help page seemed to indicate that only activity done while signed in would be saved. So now I’m confused.

  • @dinosaurprofound1eab879991 thanks for clarifying!

Yes, this use case is something that we should be able to accomplish with Pocket Casts. The main thing is for the old device to be logged into a Pocket Casts sync account, ensure that the syncable data has synced (you can check for sync errors on the Pocket Casts > Profile page on our mobile apps), and then log into the same account on a new phone with an unused Pocket Casts app.

If for some reason your new phone has Pocket Casts already installed and has a few podcast subscriptions, filters etc (so existing local data), then the data from the old device might not migrate over as expected since the new device has local data present.

K, well I never did get it to work after a few tries and I had to send my old phone in for trade in.

Thanks for the attempts to help. Hopefully my next phone transitions easileoin a few years.
