The new advertisements seriously suck.

Well, I’m happy that the banner ads have disappeared. I moved to another app but I’m back. Although the phrase “for now” is a bit alarming…

Although the phrase “for now” is a bit alarming…
To clarify, that refers to removing the ads for everyone now.
Once the banner ads are rolled out again, everyone who has purchased the app before September 2019 will not see the banner ads.

Is there an easy way for us to check if our profile / account correctly reflects the fact that we bought the app when it was a one-time purchase? Like, if I go to the main Pocket Casts website and sign in, does that show up somewhere in my account?

To the staff account(s) responding in this thread: Thank you for communicating with us, and for doing your best to provide clarity.
Unfortunately, it’s just too little too late. I didn’t take ads appearing in my podcast app as a sign that my 2014 payment was no longer being honored. I was told, via email, by a representative of this company, but it was no longer being honored. It wasn’t a glitch. It was a policy.
I think, for the CEO to retroactively say it was a glitch shows dishonesty at worst, or at least a very sloppy rollout at best. Either way, I’m not inclined to return, even for free.

Ive also been told banners are removed forever for those who bought the app.
I’m not happy with how the banners were forced and didn’t like the suggestion of paying a very high price annually.
I was further disappointed when offered a lower reduced annual fee, I would have left.
Im glad I can continue using the app but I do expect the app won’t last long if it needs that subscription model to survive. Podcasts are not worth that cost I’m my view.
I would love to see a more sincere apology, “we got it wrong”, but that isn’t likely so for how I’ll be happy with the frankly amazing piece of software.
I won’t be able to endorse it any longer though as I no longer trust the company which makes me sad.

@staff-dexter will there be a one-time-pay / remove ads only tier for those of us who started using Pocket Casts after 2019?
-
I would be open to a one-time payment for lifetime Plus if it was reasonable. I did just that with Plex when I bought a lifetime Plex Pass for $100.
-
It sounds like that happened to some people, but as of today as I understand it, if you paid the one-time purchase (when that was available, pre-2019) you should not see ads going forward. Now, folks in the forum are asking if new (post-2019) users could be offered a one-time purchase to opt out of ads without buying the ongoing premium subscription. I think that sounds reasonable, I just don’t know how much it would make sense to charge. $5 sounds low, $100 sounds high — again, only for “buying out” of ads, without other premium features…

To be clear, I think $100 would be fair for a lifetime Plus subscription, not for ad-free only.
