Trim silence sensitivity

I have noticed that, with a few podcasts I regularly listen to, the Trim Silence function isn’t working.

I have concluded that this is because these specific podcasts have a very faint, barely audible, background noise like a fan or an AC unit or something.

The Trim Silence function in Pocket Casts (iOS) obviously treats this faint background noise as audio worth keeping and hence doesn’t trim that part. I’ve compared with both Overcast and Castro and their respective functions do trim that “silence”.

Would it be possible to make the Trim Silence function a bit less sensitive, so that it doesn’t interpret faint static background noise as audio worth preserving?

  • Thank you for your feedback on this! I’ve gone ahead and forwarded this along to our developers as a feature request. I can’t offer an estimated timeframe or confirm that it will be implemented, but hopefully they’ll consider it soon!
