turning off shake to extend sleep timer feature/sound?
-
i don’t know if it’s possible, but is there a way to turn off the new shake to extend sleep timer feature, or to turn off the beep? I don’t mind tha feature myself, but I use an EQ software to lower volume to help me sleep, and this new shake to sleep feature has a beep with it which overrides my EQ app (PowerAmp) which is very jarring. As it is this is unfortunately a deal breaker for me not using this app and it disturbs me whenever I put my phone down onto my bed, although I have love it or everything else it does. Thanks

Thank you for your feedback on this! There isn’t currently a way to disable the shake to extend sleep timer feature, but I’ve shared your comment with our developers so they can take it into consideration when refining the feature going forward.

I’ve also been searching for a way to turn off the shake feature. It’s the worst idea I’ve seen with this app since it’s release.

@thegmsource I’ve gone ahead and shared your feedback with our development team as well. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Would love a way to turn this off. I use the sleep timer when out for walks/runs and it keeps extending the timer all the time because I’m moving. Also extends it when I just put my phone down. I’ve accidentally extended the timer many times. I’ve never intentionally used or wanted to use this feature.

I can confirm that this feature can be disabled as of v7.65 :)
Please keep an eye out of this update. -
I am also getting random chimes while listening to Pocketcast podcasts. This is super annoying!!! I tried setting a variety of sleep timers, but this did not solve the problem. They seem to start happening a few minutes into the podcast, then continue to chime every 3-5 seconds or so. The chime sounds like a video game sound effect….

This chime is happening on my iPHONE. My chime sounds like when someone is scoring points in a video game. The sleep timer that I use is the “End of Episode” timer (so the podcast does not disappear when done playing). I have used Pocket Casts on a daily basis for several years now. I never had this problem before today (6/5/2024). This issue needs to be resolved quickly if they do not want to start losing customers. This constant chiming is not acceptible!

Hi @ronallenagape, thanks for letting us know. That does sound annoying!
They seem to start happening a few minutes into the podcast, then continue to chime every 3-5 seconds or so
I have not been able to reproduce this. To confirm, you are starting a podcast episode, setting a sleep timer, and you are then getting notification chimes every 5 seconds or so? If not, can you tell us a little more about the steps to reproduce this chime?
If you swipe down from the top left of your screen to see the iOS notifications, are there notifications from other apps that may be causing the chime?

Please, for the love of all that is holy, let us disable the shake to extend sleep timer and to turn off the ding. I cannot stress how mental this drove me for a week or so figuring out WHAT this sound is, given there is literally nothing in the app that explains this feature.
I have Pocketcasts sounds turned off in my iPhone setting and my phone on silent and it still dings. Why.
-
Thanks @staff-joey8. Look forward to the v7.65 update.
I had my phone in my pocket and no idea why it was randomly making ‘ding’ noises lol.

@pvhf5mqr78 @gailday The update has been released, so updating the app via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store should give you access to the fixes.
The settings for the Sleep Timer can be controlled via
Profile > Settings > General -
Thank you for pushing this through, was driving me mad as I use the timer all the time when I am running/doing house chores. When enabling any new feature that has a sound it really should go through the standard iOS notifications to allow users the option of disabling the DING.
I would like it if the shake option is enabled that when you set a new sleep timer, there is a toggle to disable the shake options just for that one intance. That way we can leave it on for 99% of the time but for the odd time you are vacuuming or running but use the timer it wont just keep going DING DING every step.

I spent the week madly going through disabling every notification, checking every app setting for any sounds to no avail. Drove me nuts where I was ready to wipe my phone.

Want to disable ping when moving around in my daily life listening to podcasts. I read in the forum that there is no way to turn the annoying pinging off. Unfortunately this makes it impossible for me to listen to Pocket Cast.

@marikajonson We’ve already pushed a new update for the Sleep Timer that addresses the issue with the notification sound. Can you confirm which version you’re using now?
