Unplayed episodes keep being auto-deleted

Yesterday, without warning and certainly without permission, Pocket Casts mass-purged every single unplayed episode I’d downloaded onto my device, except the episodes of podcasts I happen to be subscribed to. It didn’t archive them, it just erased them from my phone.
As if that weren’t bad enough, it continues to delete episodes from podcasts I’m not subscribed to when I attempt to download them again. I have various reasons for maybe wanting to listen to some episodes of a given podcast without necessarily subscribing to it, but Pocket Casts keeps removing them again.
I’ve poked around in the app’s settings and not found anything that seems like it would serve to disable this utterly obnoxious feature. I’ve also reset the phone three times, including one hard reset, and still the app insists on removing episodes I download.
Does anybody have any suggestions for how to get this goddamn app to stop deleting my episodes? (And again, I’m specifically talking about episodes that I try to download and *haven’t had a chance to listen to yet*.) -
I’m sorry for the frustrating experience here! The downloads issue appears related to a bug that our team is already working on. Once we have an update for you we will reply here.

Hi there! Could you try updating to the latest 8.1.1 update from the App Store? The issue should be resolved.
