Up Next skipping and deleting episodes
-
Hi, Long-time contented user and PC+ subscriber. For months now, episodes in the up next cue get skipped (and auto-deleted, as I have that setting on). I’d say it happens maybe a third of the time. If you happen to be looking at your phone’s lock screen, you can see the player start to play the next ep in the queue and then it quickly loses it. This happens with unplayed episodes and ones already in progress. I don’t generally have more than a few episodes in my queue so I don’t think it’s overloaded. As I said, been happening for months, throughout all of the latest updates. Any illumination here would be much appreciated! Cheers from Brooklyn

Hi @didactique
Sorry to hear you are experiencing an issue with the Up Next feature. Would you mind sharing more information?
- Your Pocket Casts app version: you can check this from the Pocket Casts app under Profile > Settings > About
- App platform and platform version: for example, iOS 16.3 (how to check iOS version) or Android 13 (how to check Android version)
- Device type and model
- Troubleshooting steps you’ve tried so far
- Is this issue happening consistently? If so, could you please take a screen recording of it and share it with us by contacting us through the app? If you get a response from our AI bot, you can reply to it to have the issue escalated.
Thanks!

Hi, Thanks for the quick response. App version is 7.84 (this problem has persisted through several app updates; could have been happening for as long as 6 months; hard to say). iOS is 18.3.2 and it’s an iPhone 13 mini. Haven’t tried any troubleshooting because, other than just not using the up next feature, I wouldn’t know which trouble to shoot, as it were. The skipping and deleting does not happen every time; maybe a third of the time? And there’s no rhyme nor reason to it when it does. Generally the phone is in my pocket and I don’t even hear anything—I just wonder: what happened to the episode I had queued? And then I go back and play it again from my listening history (so it is showing up there, FYI). When I have seen it happen, I see the queued episode appear briefly on my lock screen and then disappear. Many thanks

Thanks for explaining this to us, @didactique
One possibility is that you have Auto-Archive enabled for inactive episodes – can you check that via Settings > Auto-archive?
If that is not the case, does it always happen with a few specific podcasts or random ones?
If random, we might be able to get some clues from your app debug logs. Immediately when you notice it happen again, please contact us through the app, let us know the episode that this happened to and the time + date you last saw it in your queue. You can then update this thread once you’ve sent it though.

I am also having this problem.
I do not have auto archive enabled for inactive episodes.
It just happened (10:45-10:50?) today 21st May 2025 on this episode: https://pca.st/episode/a3fc2476-17aa-4b83-8789-9c54893db2ff
It appears to happen randomly (but frequently). I will try to contact you through the app as suggested now.

Hi @sara1exis,
Do you have auto-archive for played episodes enabled?
If so, it’s possible that the episode was skipped to the end as if you listened to it, and then archived and deleted. That still doesn’t sound right, though, and we’d like to get more information from you to investigate further.

auto archive was on, but I wasn’t touching the phone so I didn’t skip, unless that’s the glitch. I’ve now set it to auto archive after 24 hours. I’ve also sent a report through the app, just after it happened (which was why I googled the issue and ended up here).

It’s still happening to me as well! But a lot less often. At one point, I thought an update had taken care of the problem permanently, but it still happens from time to time. Thx.

@sara1exis & @didactique – thanks for sharing this with us.
Sharing your logs via email is a huge help in cases like this. I’ve located the logs from @sara1exis and will be getting back to you soon.

Similar issue here.
Using android 14, seems to have started after April 9th phone software update? Zero issues up to that point.
I have auto archive on only for after an episode has played. At first it was a simple annoyance but has gotten irritating now. I have a que of 15 or so eps and after current podcast stops playing a random episode from lower in the que starts playing.
I have a small crack in the upper right hand corner of my screen but the phone has been that way for over a year and this behavior just started a few weeks ago.

Hi @timwpmp and all,
Do you happen to have any private podcasts? For example, a podcast from a Patreon subscription?
We had an issue where certain Patreon episodes were unable to be streamed. It’s possible something like that happened and the episode appeared “skipped.”
If that’s the case, the issue was fixed on 21 May 2025, at 10 am UTC. Please use the ‘Refresh Episode List’ feature to update your feed.
If not, immediately when you notice it happen again, would you contact us through the app? Please let us know the episode that this happened to and the time + date you last saw it in your queue. You can then update this thread once you’ve sent it though.

same exact issue. Happens a few times a week. May drive me to switch apps if there’s no fix.
