Add a language filter in the Discover tab

The prevalence of English language podcasts makes it very hard to discover podcasts in other languages. It would be great if there was a way to filter based on language.

It would also be very useful for the region based suggestions as well as many of those are split by language. I’m thinking here of for instance Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, and so on.

Or I can imagine people wanting for instance Spanish language podcasts from the US.

  • Hi @danielggagnon,

Thanks for sharing this idea. It’s a really thoughtful suggestion, and the point about multilingual countries is a great one that we don’t often hear framed that way.

A language filter in Discover isn’t something the app currently offers, but this is genuinely well-trodden feedback and our team is aware of the demand. In the meantime, the best workaround for finding podcasts in a specific language is to search for them directly in the Discover tab using the podcast’s native name or its RSS feed URL. It’s not a filter, but it does let you pull up shows that might not surface through browsing.

I’ve noted your feedback and added your vote to this request on our end. If anything changes on this front, we’ll do our best to share it in our release notes.

Thanks again for taking the time to write in!

A language split almost universally means a cultural split. So the “popular in Canada” bit on that page is useless to me. And cultures can be split for more reasons than that, but tracking that is subjective and incredibly hard.

Country + language is a serviceable approximation. And it works too when the country is not split per say, but you have a large cultural group within it.
