Add to top but retain date order
-
Hello, does anyone know if it’s possible to auto-queue episodes to the top of the play queue, but position below episodes from the same podcast?

Hi there @leescottdavis,
Thanks for the question! Right now Pocket Casts doesn’t have a setting that does exactly what you’re describing. The per‑podcast Auto Add to Up Next setting only offers To Top or To Bottom, and neither one groups new episodes with other unplayed episodes from the same podcast — To Top always inserts at position 1, and To Bottom always inserts at the very end of the queue.
A couple of things that get you partway there:
- If keeping each podcast’s episodes in date order matters more than keeping them near the top, switching that podcast’s setting to Auto Add to Up Next → To Bottom will queue new episodes after the older unplayed ones from the same show (since they were added earlier). They’ll sit at the bottom of Up Next though, not near the top.
- Otherwise, the only way to get the exact ordering you described today is to drag the new episode down manually inside Up Next after it auto‑adds.
You can review and tweak these per‑podcast settings under your podcast page → cog icon → Auto Add to Up Next, and the global controls live under Profile → Settings → General → Auto Add to Up Next. More background here if useful: Playing episodes and managing your queue.
I’ve passed your suggestion along to the team as a feature request, since this would be a really sensible addition to the auto‑add options. No promises on timing, but it’s logged.

Thanks Joey. Yes, I do 2) at the moment and it works fine. But the feature would be nice somewhere in the future.
Thanks
