Archived episodes not appearing in smart playlist.

I have a playlist for all my starred episodes in any podcast.
However it appears that archived episodes are not appearing. Please can the archive status be included in the smart rules?

  • We don’t currently support displaying archived episodes in Smart Playlists. However, for starred episodes, you can see all starred episodes across all of your podcasts in Profile > Starred.

If that doesn’t quite accomplish what you’re looking for, though, please let us know!

hi. As many episodes get deleted from feeds I want to keep the starred episodes downloaded. A smart filter for starred episodes that auto downloads is the only way that I can see. But not allowing archived episodes breaks this.

  • You can configure the app so that starred episodes are not automatically archived. This can be done by navigating to Profile > Settings > Auto Archive and making sure the “Include Starred Episodes” setting is disabled.

That way, if you have an episode that you’d like to keep, you can star it. Then once you finish listening to the episode, it will remain downloaded to your device and unarchived.

Would that work for you or is there some other aspect of your workflow that it would cause trouble for?

hi. Can I request that archived episodes be added as an option in smart playlists.
for example I have a podcast “more or less” that I have been listening to for some time and archived old episodes when I started listening. I’d like to listen to these in a smart playlist.

A favorite podcast with several hundred episodes has most of them archived and about 40 played. I want a smartlist (i.e. filter) of those that are archived but unplayed. Without this feature, is there any way to identify those?

  • @pesaem Right now there isn’t a way to build a smart playlist filtered by archive status because archived episodes are automatically not included in playlists of any kind.

To find them manually in the meantime, you can open that podcast’s page and turn on “Show Archived.” Archiving doesn’t change an episode’s played status, so your archived episodes still show whether they’re played or unplayed, and you can pick out the unplayed ones from there. Since it’s a per-podcast view rather than a filter, with several hundred episodes, it’s a bit of scrolling, but it will surface exactly those archived-and-unplayed episodes.

I’ve also made sure to add a vote for this feature request on your behalf!

@staff-cara Thanks. I knew I could show archived episodes, but I thought I had to tap each one open to see the played status. Looking closer now, I see the played status shows up on the list, so it isn’t hard to see which ones I want to add to up-next.

To ne perfect, A global search that digs into both titles and show notes — including archived episodes — is the only way to ensure you don’t miss a thing, especially when you’re looking for that specific quote or that old nostalgic episode you thought was lost.

  • Hi there, @sparklypractically3c708520e7 – Thanks for sharing that suggestion. I’ve added your feedback to our feature request related to search improvements.
