Controls not appearing on lock screen

  • I’ve recently upgraded to a Pixel 8, but I can’t get the Pocket Casts player/controls to appear on the lock screen.

I’ve checked the notifications for the app (in the system settings) and the battery saver / optimisation isn’t enabled.

I do see the mini-player in the notifications shade but shouldn’t there be play, pause and skip controls on the lock screen?

  • Hi, @awj100! To start, can you please share the following information with us?

    • The OS version on your device – you can usually find this from your phone’s Settings
    • Your Pocket Casts app version – you can see this from the Pocket Casts app’s Profile > Settings (gear icon) > About

In the meantime, to help narrow the issue down, can you also try playing other media using a different app where you would normally see the lock screen player? Does the lock screen player appear for that app?

You can also check your Pixel device’s settings for whether the media/music lock screen widget is enabled.

  • Perhaps it’s just my expectations, but on my old phone (Android 11) there was a widget on the lock screen which allowed me to play/pause, and skip forwards/backwards. This never appears on my new phone (Android 14). If I pull down the notifications shade there is something that allows me to do the same, but to get there I have to swipe down twice, whereas on Android 11 it was just there on the lock screen.

The Pocket Cast version is 7.50 (9158).

However, I’ve tried playing music through the Apple Music app and it also does not appear on the lock screen. I’ve looked through the phone’s settings and can’t see how to enable this – is it a feature which has been removed from Android since 11?

[And is there no way to upload images to this forum?]

The “Show media on lock screen” option is enabled.

  • I’ve found the cause of the problem: The option/setting “Skip lock screen” (if using face unlock) causes these widgets/notifications to be hidden.

Once I disable that option the player/controls appear on the lock screen. Sorry.

  • No need to apologize, @awj100! And I really appreciate you sharing what worked for you too, as it would help other folks who might run into the same issue. Thank you!
