Does Headset Control should work with watchOS ?

I have succeed to use Headset control with my AirPod and Pocket Cast on my iPhone.
I didn’t succeed with my AirPod connected to the PocketCast app on my Apple Watch (without my iPhone nearby)

is a bug ? Or. It yet implemented in watchOS autonomous version ?

  • Hi there!

The Headphone Controls feature in Pocket Casts (where you can customize what the previous/next actions on your headset do) is currently only available in the iOS and Android apps. It isn’t available in the standalone watchOS app, so the custom mappings you’ve set up on your iPhone won’t carry over when using the Watch play source independently.

That said, basic AirPods controls like play/pause should still work through the Apple Watch’s system media controls when Pocket Casts is the active Now Playing app. If even play/pause isn’t responding when your AirPods are connected directly to your Watch, could you try the following?

    1. Make sure you’re on the latest version of both the Pocket Casts Watch app and watchOS.
    2. Start an episode on the Watch app first, then try AirPods controls.
    3. If that doesn’t work, try disconnecting and reconnecting your AirPods to the Watch via Settings > Bluetooth.

If the issue is specifically about custom headset actions (like changing skip forward to “next chapter”), that’s a feature that would need to be built for watchOS specifically.

It was for custom headset actions like bookmarking.
    Basic controls are working well

  • Thanks for clarifying! That makes sense – basic playback controls (play/pause, skip) work as expected on the Apple Watch because those are standard media controls handled by watchOS.

Custom Headphone Controls like bookmarking, however, are currently only available on the iPhone and Android apps. The watchOS app doesn’t support custom headset actions at this time.

I’ve added your feature request to our system. In the meantime, you can still create bookmarks directly on the Apple Watch app by tapping the bookmark icon on the Now Playing screen, though it does require a manual tap rather than a headset gesture.
