Feature Request: Hide fully played podcasts/Inactive queue

  • Unknown's avatar

I’d love for Pocket Casts to remove from view any podcast show that’s been fully listened to, and have it show back up when a new episode launches. The fully played podcast could live in an “inactive” queue, where you could also have shows you want to keep an eye on, but not having it refresh, or show new episodes.

I can’t really get used to Badges or the view changing with “recently updated”.

  • @kingcuerno @petsku09 thanks for the suggestions! We’ll note them down in our feature request list.

+10000 for this. It puts the burden of finding unlistened to episodes from a given podcast on the user. You could almost achieve this capability, using filters, if you could group all the new episodes for a given podcasts into a single entry that could then be expanded for more details.

  • @z3dqecpmpj thank you! I’ve gone ahead and added your comments to the feature request.

Thanks for adding my comments! I’m trying out Pocketcasts after the Overcast rewrite removed the “Play Next” capability. I love how robust the “Up Next” queue is and the user interaction is well thought out and smooth. Adding this capability would be seal the deal for me 🤣

Fantastic feature request! I’ve been looking for this feature for some time too. I’d love to hide podcasts that haven’t had new episodes for ages until a new one drops!

Thanks for a great app, PocketCasts :)

  • @getstig, I’ve added your comment to the feature request as well. Thank you!

2 yeas after…. no feature implemented, “hide podcast if all played”

  • There isn’t currently an equivalent option in the app that automatically hides whole podcasts once you’ve listened to every episode and then resurfaces them when a new episode drops. This request has come up from other listeners as well, and our team has logged it as a feature request for future consideration.

However, here are some suggestions to implement a similar workflow using the existing options:

    • Sort by “Recently Played” or group caught-up shows in a folder. On the Podcasts tab, you can tap the sort/options icon and rearrange so the shows with new, unplayed episodes float to the top. Some listeners also create a dedicated folder (something like “Caught Up” or “Inactive”) and manually move fully-played shows into it — that keeps your main view focused on shows with something new to listen to.
    • Use a Smart Playlist for new episodes. Smart Playlists lets you build a list, using smart rules, which only shows unplayed episodes released in the last few days/weeks across your subscriptions. It doesn’t hide the shows themselves on the Podcasts tab, but it gives you a single, clean view of just what’s new — which is often what people are really after.

“This request has come up from other listeners” was said a long time ago… and they’re still waiting.

  • @zecompadre That’s fair. To be completely transparent, however, this isn’t on the near-term roadmap yet, as there hasn’t been enough demand to make it a priority over other features and fixes. For context, we’re a small team, and votes on feature requests help our developers with prioritizing which features to build.
