Gerry Anderson Podcast not downloading / case issues

    A few episodes the Gerry Anderson Podcast stopped downloading:

    I suspect the issue is with captivate.fm moving their pods to a case sensitive platform If I use
    https://feeds.captivate.fm/GerryAndersonPodcast/
    From the OPML file I get a 404

    If I tweak it to
    https://feeds.captivate.fm/gerryandersonpodcast/
    the feed will appear in a browser.

    Trying to import to PocketCasts it presents the one with upper case even when trying to import lowercase.

    Any suggestions

    Good catch! It does seem like that was the issue. I changed the feed to https://feeds.captivate.fm/gerryandersonpodcast/ which appears to have fixed the problem.

    Please check again and let us know if it works now

    Sort of, I have the feed back which is all good.

    When I search for the podcast it doesn’t appear in podcasts until I followed, however I got episodes and was able to re-follow the podcast from an episode and the last month’s worth of episodes finally appeared.

    Glad to hear the feed is back and the episodes came through! The search visibility quirk you’re seeing, where the podcast only appears after you’ve followed it, is likely a side effect of the feed URL change. Our search index can take a little time to catch up after a feed is updated, so it may not surface correctly in results straight away.

    That said, since you were able to re-follow from an episode and everything loaded, you should be in good shape going forward. A couple of things worth knowing:

    • New episodes should now come through automatically as they’re published.
    • If you ever notice episodes going missing again, a manual refresh can help: tap the Profile tab, then Refresh Now.
    • If the feed ever falls out of sync again, you can also check the Podcast Parsing article for context on how our system picks up feed changes.

    If you run into any further trouble with downloads or the search index not updating after a reasonable amount of time, feel free to follow up here and we’ll take another look.

    Thanks – I’d done a load of de-bugging (refresh, remove, re-add feed, fix downloads, pull the OPML) before I raised the question.

    First time I’ve noticed this particular error in the last 9 years.

    (Reading the OPML there’s a load of podcasts that obviously don’t know how to manage the move to a new URL as they’ve morphed over the years and still use the same RSS feed from way back when they had different branding.)

    Switching from mixed case to all lower case without any other change is a nasty edge case though strange captivate.fm would get it wrong)
