How to locate podcasts with custom auto archive settings?

I completely misunderstood the purpose of archiving and was too liberal with custom auto-archive settings.
I’d like to remove any custom auto-archive settings from my followed podcast and start over. I’ve already changed the global settings so after I remove the custom settings, I’ll know how auto-archive will behave going forward.
Either a search function or a “reset all auto-archive settings to default” would work.

Unfortunately, there’s no bulk reset or search for podcasts with custom auto-archive settings right now. The only way to clear them is to visit each podcast’s page individually, tap the Settings cog, tap Auto Archive, and turn off the “Custom for This Podcast” toggle. It’s tedious if you have many podcasts, but that’s the current path.
If a one-tap “reset all to global defaults” option would help, that sounds like a solid feature request. I’ve added it to our ideas board, which the team reviews regularly as they plan future work.

If I unarchive every episode of a podcast that had played episodes, and I have “archive played episodes after x hours” globally enabled, will podcasts re-archive those episodes?
or will I need to manually archive those?

Good question, and you won’t need to archive them by hand.
What happens after you unarchive
Auto Archive re-checks your library each time the app refreshes. Any episode that is marked as played, is not archived, and was last played longer ago than your “Played Episodes” setting gets archived again. Unarchiving doesn’t reset that clock, so if you unarchive episodes you finished a while back and your global setting is “after 24 hours”, they’ll return to the archive on the next refresh.
Two things to keep in mind:
- Per-podcast custom settings override the global ones, so turn off Custom for This Podcast on a podcast before relying on the global rule for it.
- Starred episodes are skipped unless Include Starred Episodes is on under Profile > Settings > Auto Archive.
Since archiving never changes an episode’s play status or playback position, you can also just leave played episodes archived and use Show Archived on a podcast’s page whenever you want to see them. The Archiving Episodes article has the full details.
