Large Data Usage on Mobile
-
The last couple of months I have had large data usage on mobile. I have never had this issue before. I have it set to warn me before streaming on mobile. I typically download my podcasts ahead of time when I know I am not going to be on mobile. Is it possible that podcasts that started downloading on WiFi continue downloading if you are no longer on WiFi without warning you?

@schwartze, Here are a few things worth checking:
Verify your data settings:
- Go to Profile, then Settings
- Tap Storage & Data Use
- Confirm “Warn before using data” is enabled
- Go back to Settings, tap Auto Download, and confirm “Only on unmetered WiFi” is toggled on
Even with those settings activated, there could be other situations that may cause mobile data use, for example:
- Up Next autoplay: If Autoplay advances to an episode that isn’t fully downloaded, the app might stream it over mobile without prompting you. This is a known issue we’re investigating.
- Android Auto: As sharpestmarble mentioned, Android Auto can trigger streaming over mobile data in a similar way.
- Downloads while on mobile: Adding episodes to Up Next while on a mobile connection has also been reported to trigger downloads in some cases, bypassing the WiFi-only setting.
If the issue is ongoing and you’d like us to dig into your specific logs, please reach out via that app. Go to: Profile > Help & feedback > Contact Support > Get Support.
