Mark as played when a podcast is skipped with on X minutes remaining
-
A lot of podcasts end with a musical outro which can be quite long. I’d like to have a feature in settings where I could set the number of minutes left of an episode where a skip would automatically mark the episode as played.
Personally, I’d want to set this to 5 minutes. So if I listen to an episode and skip with only 4 minutes left, the podcast is marked as played.
I’m not sure if I’d want it marked as played if I just picked another episode to play. But I think that would be useful too. Maybe, like the modal that appears when the user picks a new playlist to play, the user could be asked if they want to mark the episode as played?
This would be great, I’ve tried looking for this setting and do not enjoy my partially played episodes coming back on my queue with just the annoying outro music.
Thanks for the great app!

Thanks for the thoughtful suggestion! This isn’t a feature that currently exists in Pocket Casts, but there are a couple of existing tools that may help in the meantime:
- Skip Last: You can configure Pocket Casts to automatically skip the last X minutes of every episode. This won’t mark the episode as played on its own, but combined with the auto-archive setting, it can help reduce the clutter of near-finished episodes sitting in your queue.
- Auto Archive played episodes: If you have this enabled, episodes that finish playing (including via Skip Last) will be archived automatically, keeping your queue tidy.
The exact location of these settings will depend on which app you’re using (iOS, Android, web, or desktop), so let us know your platform if you’d like specific steps.
We’ve passed your feature request along to the team. Thanks again for taking the time to write it up so clearly!
