Notification of new podcasts not notifying

    I have many podcasts that are set to not automatically download and instead show a notification whenever there is a new episode. I make an archive vs download decision from the notification.

    However, frequently, I don’t get the notifications when new episodes are showing up. The Not Downloaded smart playlist catches this because my workflow never results in desired episodes not being downloaded. They either auto download or I manually download or archive them from the notification.

    Nearly every day I have new episodes in the Not Downloaded smart playlist that I never got a notification for. It’s not the same podcast when it happens.

    Can you confirm if you are using iOS or Android? Also, what version of Pocket Casts are you using?

    It would also be great if you could confirm if everything is correctly configured as per https://support.pocketcasts.com/knowledge-base/episode-notifications-2/

    I am using Android v8.7.1 and have confirmed the notification settings that you provided.

For Android we suggest checking the background refresh, and battery settings on the device itself and confirm they are set to unrestricted/optimized.     I have checked these settings and they are all set as you have indicated.

  • Thanks for the update! If you haven’t done so yet, please update the app to the new version.

    Next, on your Android device, check the notification settings. (These steps may vary based on the phone model and the version of Android you have.) On your phone: Settings → Apps → Pocket Casts → Notifications and make sure notifications are allowed, set to show on the lock screen, and not silenced or put in a summary mode. Check whether your device has a notification history feature and see if missed new‑episode notifications are appearing there, which would indicate they are being sent but perhaps not shown as expected.

    In Pocket Casts, go to Profile → Settings → Notifications and make sure New Episodes → Notify me is enabled. If you still need help after trying this for a few days, let us know. Please send the app debug log from the app. Go to Profile > Help & feedback > Contact Support > Get Support.

    I have checked the notifications settings and they are set as stated. The missed episodes do not appear in the notification history. In Pocket Casts, the Notify Me settings is enabled for 49 podcasts and I am still missing notifications from some of those podcasts.

  • @jeffcarp94 Could you provide us with some logs from your device to help us look into this issue?

    You can follow these steps to send app logs to us from your Android device:

    1. Navigate to Profile > Help & Feedback > Contact Support > Get Support
    2. This will open your device’s default email app with the logs attached.
    3. Once you’ve sent the logs along, reply to this email thread to let us know they’ve been sent.

    I sent logs, waiting until after I had new podcast episodes shows up without seeing a notification.
