Playback notification disappears from lock screen after being paused 1+ minute
-
Hi all, loving this app. 🙂
Is it says.
Listening to a podcast is fine – the controls are always there on the lock screen when I bring it up. However if I pause the playback, And I close the phone screen the the notification controls will be on the lock screen but if I leave it for more than a minute they disappear which means that I can’t resume playback from the lock screen after this time I have to unlock the phone which is really driving me bonkers .
Running latest Android s24 Ultra, the app has unrestricted battery use and I’ve tried just about every setting including fiddling with hide controls on pause .Any help appreciated. Thank you

I’m happy to help. I recommend you check your phone settings at Settings> Sound & vibration> Media and ensure that “Pin media player” is enabled along with “Show media on lock screen”. This should ensure that your phone lets you play and pause media from the lock screen.

thanks for replying so quickly. I can find neither of these settings, even using the settings search function.
the player works on lock screen while playing as normal along with the controls and also for as long as I keep the lock screen active after pressing pause. However, when I shut the screen down for more than a minute, the lock screen notification player vanishes but the app is still exactly where it was and in the same state when I unlock the phone.
its as if the notification got shut down to preserve battery but all those settings are for no battery saving.

@erikkpainting There are a couple of things we can check. Can you please check the following settings?
- Your phone’s Settings > Lock screen > Widgets—please make sure the Music widget is enabled there
- Your phone’s Settings > Apps > Pocket Casts > Notifications—please make sure that Lock screen is allowed
If both look good, kindly restart your device, play an episode on Pocket Casts, and check if the notification player stays on the lock screen.

legend, thank you for the reply.
both settings are as you suggested. I just can’t work out why it gets dropped by the phone when the screen is off after a minute of pause. 😐

I’ve been having this issue since I got my S24 Ultra. Ive tried everything… battery restriction settings, “Keep open” option in the task manager/app switcher, all the lock screen options, but it still happens and Its really annoying. Are there any s24 ultra owners here? I dont recall this happening on my Pixel 8 Pro

@erikkpainting I suspect that S24 might have some software tweaks that is removing the Now Playing widget after some inactivity. Could you try using some other audio apps and check if the same behaviour persists?

Same issue here on my Oneplus 11. This started a few months ago (don’t remember when exactly) and for me it’s even worse
It doesn’t even take a minute of inactivity. Whenever I pause and try to resume the podcast I’m playing by pressing the play button on the lock screen the widget closes itself and I need to unlock and open the app. Also checked all the settings (battery, lock screen etc.) and restarted the phone 100 times. The widget works as long as I don’t hit pause though. Fast forward and rewind works while playing. But God forbid I press this stupid play button just once… 😅
I’m pretty confident that there must be an issue with the app and not my phone because the Spotify playback widget works flawlessly and my other music player app (Poweramp) as well. Pause, play, pause, play – no issues

Hi @msalva89890ec891e9 – There’s a setting in Profile > Settings > Notifications: Hide playback notification on pause.

Can you check if you have that enabled, and if so, try disabling it and see if that helps?

@msalva89890ec891e9 Ok, thanks for confirming. Our developers are looking into some similar issues with the lock screen player, and I’ve added your report there. We hope to have a fix for this before too long.

Hi, I agree with everyone reporting above me, I am experiencing the same problem. I also have all the settings configured correctly as already suggested above.
And unfortunately the problem still exists.
Thank you for everything and we hope this gets resolved soon.

Finally found a thread mentioning the play button issue on the lock screen. I’ve had multiple phones recently and once you’re on the lock screen, hitting play seems to just close the player. Forward and back seem fine and controls in the notification tray while unlocked are fine too. Issue both using a Samsung S20 and OnePlus 12. I checked other apps and didn’t have the same issue. Hope it can be resolved soon because it is incredibly annoying and I don’t want to change apps.

Hi @yonigrady and @emmetfardy
Would you mind sharing the type of device, operating system and its version, and Pocket Casts app version?
-
OnePlus 12 android 15 (15.0.0.820) Oxygen OS 15
Pocket cast v7.89 9340 (Plus multiple pervious versions)

Thanks for sharing this, @emmetfardy, @yonigrady @erikkpainting
I’ve filed the issue here: https://github.com/Automattic/pocket-casts-android/issues/4062
However, I noticed that YouTube Music behaves the same for me. It appears to be a OneUI issue, and not something specific to Pocket Casts.
We are aware of some users reporting a similar issue on Android devices, but in those cases, the notification will not disappear after 1 minute; they say it disappears immediately. @emmetfardy – can you confirm if it takes 1 minute to disappear and what Android version your devices are using?

th8s really seems not to be any issue with the app but a problem with android. There are a few apos showing the same issue and I’m hoping ui7.0 will fix it. 🙂
