Playback skips backwards randomly

I am still experiencing this problem on Android (version 15, Sony Xperia V1). The app is up to date.

Our team has made several backend and app-level updates to improve playback stability, but a few users are still seeing these interruptions — especially when dynamic ads are involved. To help us investigate further, could you please share a bit more detail?
- Do skips occur during streaming, downloaded playback, or both?
- Are there specific podcasts where this happens more often?
- Roughly how far into playback do the skips tend to occur?

@staff-frank I Have had this issue specifically with IheartRadio based podcasts (Stuff You Should Know and Stuff you Missed In History Class are the 2 that I listen to) and across several different players. It started for me in Google Podcasts, when Google killed that app I switched to Pocket Casts and it continued so i tried a couple other players, listened to the same episode, same issue, so I just went back to Pocket Casts and just dealt with it! I believe it has gotten better, but it could be that I just don’t listen as many episodes. It has certainly not gone away though and years later I am finally annoyed enough to google it and start digging!
I only ever stream podcasts so all of my examples are streaming, what typically happens is there is a sharp sound, almost like a digital record scratch and the audio will now suddenly be from anyway from several seconds back or at worst sometimes several minutes back(this is one of the things that I feel like has gotten better, I can’t recall a recent skip back several minutes). However the progress bar of the podcast never jumps back, just the audio track. Whenever this happens that skipped time is almost always chopped off of the end of the podcast, I say almost because when the skips are a few seconds to a minute the time chopped off the the end is ads that I skip anyway but I have had the podcast just end abruptly mid sentence. These skips can happen at random times, sometimes very early, other times middle of an hour long show, really no rhyme or reason to when or why.
Like I said earlier, this has always been with Iheart shows, and I have also noticed that some times that I get skips and sometimes without skips, their dynamic ads will be broken, the host says we are going to break and then instead of ads playing they come right back with their intro (personally more of a feature than a bug but I would rather their playback not break at all!)

This always happens with streaming and never with downloads. AntennaPod also struggles with this.

@mweir1981 @mertdikmen could you both send app logs along to us the next time this issue occurs? We can use those to investigate the issue and see if there is a way to mitigate it within the app.
