Please add a European payment option such as Wero
-
Hi Pocket Casts team,
I have been a happy Pocket Casts Plus member for a while and I really enjoy the app. However, I am running into a problem with paying for my membership.
I am trying to reduce my dependence on non-European payment providers, and I will soon no longer be able to pay for my subscription with the options currently available. Wero, the European payment solution backed by a number of major European banks, is becoming more widely used across Europe, and it would be a great addition to your checkout.
Would you consider supporting Wero or another European payment provider, for example SEPA direct debit? I think many other users in Europe would appreciate this too.
If no such option becomes available, I unfortunately will have to cancel my membership, and I would really prefer not to.
Thanks a lot for considering this, and for the great work on the app.
Best regards

Hi @oyood,
Thanks for the kind words about the app, and for asking before making a decision about your membership.
At the moment, Pocket Casts doesn’t offer Wero or SEPA direct debit, and I can’t say whether either will be added. Plus memberships bought on our website can be paid with:
- Card
- PayPal
- Google Pay (in Chrome, with a card saved in Google Wallet)
- Apple Pay
Memberships bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play use whatever payment methods those stores accept for your account. Plus and Patron Subscriptions: Payments Troubleshooting and FAQs lists the options for each.
If none of these works for you and you decide to cancel, you keep Plus until the end of the period you’ve already paid for. How to cancel a subscription walks through the steps.
Thanks again for being a Plus member, and let me know if you have any questions.

Hi, thank you for the quick and clear answer, I really appreciate it.
Unfortunately, the options you listed do not solve my problem. Card payments, PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay and the app store billing all depend on providers based in the US. Apple Pay and Google Pay also only sit on top of a Visa or Mastercard, so the underlying infrastructure is the same.
For many people in Europe, this has become a real concern. Given the current geopolitical uncertainty, relying entirely on non European payment providers is increasingly seen as a risk, whether it is about reliability, data protection or simply wanting a payment infrastructure that is independent of other regions. That is why European options like Wero or SEPA direct debit matter so much to me and, I suspect, to a growing number of other users here.
I understand that you cannot make any promises. Would you still be willing to pass this on to the product team as a feature request? If other European users feel the same way, please add your voice to this thread.
Thanks again for your help, and for the great work on the app.
Best regards

Hi @oyood,
Thanks for explaining, that makes sense. You’re right that every option I listed runs on card networks or payment providers based outside Europe, so none of them gives you what you’re looking for.
I’ve passed your request for Wero or SEPA direct debit along to our team as a feature request, including your point that Apple Pay and Google Pay still run on the same card networks underneath. I can’t promise it will be added, but your reasons are now on record with the people who decide.
In the meantime, your Plus membership carries on as it is. Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with.
